West Somerset Railway General Discussion

Discussion in 'Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK' started by gwr4090, Nov 15, 2007.

Tony - for details of the GWR deal, as per their poster, see gwr.com/wsr - as I understand it, you need to travel from a GWR station to Taunton with their "WSR Away Day" ticket (that ticket includes transfer to Lydeard by bus or, on 10-11 June only, by train, then unlimited travel on WSR stations on that day).

You can also just do the Taunton-Lydeard bit by rail for £6 return. But you'll have to buy a WSR ticket to travel on WSR trains.

    Simple. I think.

Now where is that Auto Train when you need it? - shame such an idea would sink under a mountain of red tape.

Is it just normal buses service or a special bus timetable. Can't see me be able to get to the gala now without shuttle

It's not very clear, but it seems to me that GWR are supplying a replacement coach service, presumably at the same times as the shuttle trains. Alternatively, if you were planning on spending £6 on the shuttle, you could instead spend it on the #28 bus! It might even be cheaper!

Peter tells me that the fare was 4£80 on Tuesday.
    PS
He's just added that a direct service is not going to be much quicker than the 28.

An overcast sky but with a good weather forecast I set off for BL to have breakfast on the QB. Service started just before the 1055 departure left BL with fruit juice and coffee or tea. Before we reached Crowcombe I was tucking into to my "Quality Breakfast". Good quality ingredients well cooked and promptly served is the way to keep the customers coming back. The tables were almost full to capacity despite the late start. My only criticism is why did the train have to leave a hour later than on Saturday and Sunday? On the return journey I received a message that the Taunton to BL shuttle had been cancelled due to lack of serviceable rolling stock. A pity as I was looking forward to that service. Nevertheless a good day out. Well done the QB team who were on top form.

My GWR source says [Saturday] that problem was caused by the strong winds bringing down trees which damged rolling stock in Devon and Cornwall...

Good job they have some nice, 'new' trains to fill in for the 'older' stuff, isn't it! ;)

The WSR coaches being painted in 'carmine and cream' are the dual braked ones.

  18. Spent a couple hrs driving round yesterday , such a shame to see what a green tunnel most of the line has become, No wonder those who have/had a pass are upset when you can bearly see the line from public view points.

I presume that your post means you are volunteering for the cutting back gang. I am sure that they would welcome your help. The gang have worked extremely hard this year around Kentsford and not only were tons of foliage removed, the new fence was installed. Well done to them.
