Contradiction in first line, if it's in black it isn't right so can't look right

It was a photographic charter on the GCR. Recreating the past, what railway preservation ought to be about

A dodgy recreation if you ask me. The Pines was a longer train than load 6, had a couple of Gresley teak in the rake on the final run too, the reporting number wasn't as neat as in your pic and the GCR doesn't look a lot like the SDJR. Apart from that it was spot on. :)

You forgot the headcode is wrong and the Pines headboard is to small! Perhaps I used the wrong picture to illustrate the point, doesthis look any better?

You wearing your flac jacket after writing that? Dissing the legacy and froth following of the SDJR incurs wrath of the cult...

Ah but in this day and age it can be black, therefore its right and so it looks right, 'cos it is...

Preservation is always a compromise, we try to recreate the past, but have to accept modern restrictions, and that will include in some cases we can only give what we can, with what we have, Mainline steam needs modern electrical systems now to be able to run on the mainline, but i dont see anyone complaining its removing authenticity , engines have appeared in the past carrying the number of a classmate, or even a number never carried by a class member ( 60163) , but again no one complains, we should be thankful that many owners, be them groups or individuals, do paint their engines in historically accurate liveries, but you will get some who will for what ever reason go their own way, at the end of the day its their engine, and they have every right to paint it what ever colour they please.

Is what WCRC do a Preservation based product or is it a Nostalgia based one, in the case of the latter if it looks/feels right enough to the average punter then it is right enough....

No idea but the GC definitely didn't have GW signals. I think it's called modellers licence

I believe Swithland Sidings has been recreated in part to illustrate a section of the GW/GC Joint Line further south.

This particular livery debate has got a bit mired in the motivational aspects and also a fear the end product might be sub par aesthetically. We have all relished 46115 so would hope a similarly high standard of recreation occurs with 35018 but the portents are not good so far and talk of 'Smithsonian humour' at play given its head does not offer much promise.

Beat me to it. I think that's the case, and to be honest have been there and think they look great. Some of the standard BR signal gantries further towards Loughborough really look fine too.

Is the corporate strategy defined as such or is it more ad hoc? Some elements seem to be recreationist whilst others are innovatory - bit muddled.

The number 60163 has been used on an A1 class, Tornado built in 2008. The Trust has always maintained that it is not a replica but the next member of the class, a bit like some of the J72s built nearly 60 years after the first ones
