Not really. There are still three glaring (to me anyway!) details on the front of that 9F which say to me that this is not 92220 and certainly not the S&D in 1962. But I guess I pay too much attention to detail.

Steam heat, should have two individual steps between the frames (single step across the frames fitted in 1963) and lamp brackets should be GWR style.

I can see two, the step plate under the smokebox door is wrong ( I think it's wrong for any 9F with no centre support ) and there is no WR ATC gear. So what's the third and the Pines Express didn't just run on the S&D

And I thought it was only me that noticed such details. Correct in all three items.

Harold Morris, the Bath Shedmaster so wanted to fit his 9Fs with steam heat so that he could keep them all year round but was not allowed to do so.

I thought I had replied to this but it seems to have got lost. You Sir are correct in every detail.

I know, right? The cylinders stick out too far, the cab roof is too tall, the whole thing is an aesthetic mess.

You didn't mean Halls in general, did you?

To my mind the Halls are the ugly ducklings of the Collett 4-6-0s. The Manors are very pretty, the Castles and Kings cleverly combine elegance with brute power, but the proportions of the Halls are all over the place. A minority opinion, I'm sure.

Orton Hall does not look bad and she is a great looking locomotives. Plus her current colour suits her very and all GWR locomotives are beautiful locomotives.

Orton Hall looks very good in red (so do Bulleid pacifics!). It is entirely authentic for a fictional magic locomotive.
It has probably done more to interest children in steam than any other loco out there, and as a result brought a huge amount of revenue to steam railways everywhere.
Unlikely it would have done had it remained just another Hall in GWR livery.

We'll take the complement but there are no gantries anywhere on the GC, the nearest one is on the GCRN at Ruddington. Brackets, yes, although the best looking one (Loughborough's inner home) is ex-Leicester Central of course and I presume (others will know for sure) rather pre-dates the BR era.

Yes, it is perhaps. Certainly, if I could afford a Hall (should one be for sale) I'd buy one! I'd agree that the Saints are even more elegant.

Already done....! For a Railroad model, this is very acceptable in my view. Just need to get on with the layout sometime. Sorry, thread drift. 6947-Helmingham Hall GWR Collett Hall Class 4-6-0.JPG .
