Times are out for the 9th July railtour with 35028. Fast line running once again from London to Salisbury, apart from Clapham Junction platform 11 (according to RTT).

Looking forward to it immensely. Looking at UKRT, there's been a late surge in bookings with only 7 seats left.

We knew that some people were waiting to see if Clan Line was going to make it - she has!

Our tickets for this run arrived today :):):)
Letter with the tickets says that Yeovil Railway Centre will be holding a Gala to Commemorate the End of SR Steam Anniversary with their standard gauge and miniature railways in operation.

I'll have to give that one a miss as my good lady wife is with me! We'll be hopping out at Sherborne for the afternoon. I really don't think 3 hours at Yeovil Junction would be popular!

My plan, too, as there's no bus into Yeovil on a Sunday, as I'd want a pint at the destination! Never been to Sherborne before, so a good opportunity.

Also going to Sherborne, need to decide where to go for lunch, I think it will be too late for food at the Digby tap, but will go there later for the real ale. Also got decide if I join at Woking in instead of Waterloo due to the later return.

According to the Yeovil website there will be real ale and cider on sale.

I am confident to say that you and Mrs BP will really like Sherborne - but I'm biased as I live only one station away! It's a terrific small English town with a castle & lovely grounds (open to public) plus another very old castle (ruin) nearby, fantastic Abbey in the town centre, lots of stone buildings and eight pubs - all selling real ale! If you want Sunday lunch try either the George (phone up beforehand as they officially finish at 14.30 but they know the train is coming and will keep going if you advise them); The Plume of Feathers or the Britannia (both do food all afternoon and also know about the train). Should your preference be a 'liquid lunch' then opposite the Britannia - and nearest pub to the station - is the famous Digby Tap. Pretty basic, but very popular and a great range of ales starting at £2.40 per pint! All the other pubs are very reasonably priced too - certainly compared to London and the SE.
Yeovil Railway Centre will be putting on a good little event too, including - so they tell me - a real ale bar. Those travelling through to Yeovil Jn should ensure they visit the 'Friends of Templecombe Station' stand, where Mrs Derby2 will be pleased to welcome you! In fact, as you pass through Templecombe, look out for the restored cast iron footbridge and buildings/gardens on the R/H side (we won the National 'Best Small Station' award last year).
    OK - advert over now!

Only a minor detail, but I have four days to acquire a Mrs BP, and whoever the unlucky candidate is, she'll have to be pretty understanding!

A group of us have decided to do a joint 30th event, and my suggestion (this trip) was the one that managed to get off the ground. They requested Sherborne, and I had absolutely no problems with it as a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestions. A mixture of dinner and a liquid dessert will be just the ticket.

Sorry, confused your post with that of Mr 6026KJ - maybe you could borrow his for the afternoon?!

Hi. Don't forget you can visit Sherborne (very nice) and catch a SWT 159 down to Yeovil (or vice versa)! Only 8 minutes away.
Looking forward to meeting our guests.

....and then I can go to the gala at Yeovil Jct. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!

Erm... Well, this has all the makings of a pilot episode of 'Last of the Summer Lightning', a new sitcom that I'm not working on, nor, indeed, existed until this exchange took place.

Whilst it won't be possible to fully recreate the 'club car' of the old 2051 arrival on Sunday, there will be enough of us in Coach G to come close. And in the same way as happened 50 years ago, July 9th will be about the occasion rather than a high speed dash along the SWML. That said, it looks as though SWT and NR have been as accommodating as possible in providing the path that was requested and they deserve thanks for that. All it needs is people in Control on the day keeping an eye on the train and not doing anything crass to spoil the show should the Network have a hiccup. It is, after all, a Sunday, and those of us with long memories all know the lottery that Sunday could sometimes bring. Hopefully this day will be the exception.

Best wishes, in advance, to all those who have been central to the planning and execution of this event.

Another one (two actually) here for Sherborne. Visited the abbey for the first time a couple of months ag0, well worth seeing again plus a look at the town too.
