I keep seeing a lot of rumblings on various aussie sites regarding this loco being bought by the NRM but in this country a deathly hush. I hope it isn't true as the ill will I see it generating towards the NRM isn't pretty.

    Sounds remarkably unlikely.

That's what I thought. Apparently the museum she's at is in the hands of the receivers. One nutter even suggested running her on the great central! I know it was built to continental gauge but I think aussie stuff is just a bit too big!

I thought that 6029 had been moved from Canberra to Thirlmere?

It has! Its all getting very heated. If it isn't true someone from the NRM really needs to make an official statement.

Really? Surely that would give the whole issue some credence whereas at the moment it would just seem to be internet gossip.

And Paul Kirham is no longer Director of the NRM, so most likely there isnt anyone able to give an official responce, The NRM, is going to have very significant changes and what that means for the national collecting is for the moment being kept very quite, there is more chance of something moving the other way, from the UK, to Austrailia , than the other way, i would say .

I agree that it is most unlikely that this locomotive would move to the UK, but what a splendid thing it would be!

I agree with both statements. Would it fit on the GC?

Don't have exact figures to hand but a NSW 60 Class would be somewhere close to 14' high and up to 10' 6" wide.

I think you will find its just a mix up in abbreviation. The Australians use the initial NRM to describe the New South Wales Rail Transport Museum at thirmere .With a name like that you can understand why. 6029 has been stored there since it was leased to them by Deloites who are the receivers for the Canberra Railway Museum. 6029 is out of service with boiler problems. Its original boiler failed back in the 1980's and when it was restored in 2014 it was replaced with a Class 60boiler that had survived at a sawmill. Sadly the original boiler along with numerous other class 60 components are listed for disposal at the clearing sale on August 2

I do hope it has an operational future, here or in Oz. It'd be cool as **** to see it hammering up Shap or the Lickey if possible...

Indeed - why not doublehead it the UP Big Boy! I'm sure Network Rail's gauging people could fit them in somehow.
