Sounds Great- shame I am not a photographer as I do have a bit of a thing for the 'Quarry Hunslets'

Dinorwic Locos off the top of my head that are in traffic......and red?

Alice, George B, 'Elidir', Lady Joan, Covertcoat- maybe Maid Marian if complete by then?

    Static
Michael, King of the Scarlets, Velinheli

Potential for a fantastic line up!

Just cribbed this from the Quarry's own site, but I'll bet there will be more:

    The following locomotives are coming:

Statfold, Jack Lane and CSR no19 all from Statfold Barn Railway

Irish Mail from W Lancs. Light Railway

Cloister from Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Trust

Just got back ... what a great event. It ranks alongside Foxfield Colliery for an authentic industrial setting. Very relaxed regime too. Essentially, go where you like but please be careful.

Thoroughly recommended. I'll be back next year.

    Piccies anyone ?

Sadly due to a previously unidentified medical condition I have had to cancel my attendance at this year's event as it clashed with major heart surgery; could some kind person let me know what I missed ?

    Many thanks in advance

This was the fourth 30742 Charters event , each year building on the previous one . The Friday event which fits around the three service trains is organised to give photographers the best opportunities and also raise money to help cover the transport costs so the weekend event can donate to charity . I don't know whether the theme put people off , or that there is a feeling of been there , but bookings were well down achieving about half of last year which had the best bookings of any surpassing the Penrhyn event in 2015

I have delved into the kitty each year to top up the photographers contribution and cover all the transport costs but there is a limit to what I can do . Collective thoughts were that we wouldn't do an event in 2018 or at least one in the current format

The thing is as you can see from the images Threlkeld is just such an amazing place. A quarry , gradients , scenery that is like nothing else, weather that goes from sun to rain and back in minutes , the most gorgeous engine shed in preservation, and then add in a few conversations that give us a guest list for 2018 that I think has a lot of appeal .

So there you are , @Fred Kerr hopefully 2018 will happen , but I need the photographic communities support to make it happen

Thank you for the thought Martin - it gives me something to look forward to after receiving a quadruple by-pass operation that I had no idea I needed. Sadly this is a genetic condition hence the need to recuperate slowly in preparation for the 2018 charter programme BUT, given that some photographers have been known to collapse without warning I can only repeat the surgeon's advice to keep a close watch on your health once you take retirement if only to catch the problem early should it arise.

As an encouragement to future charters I wonder if there is any value in creating a Flickr Album / Blurb Book of previous year's charters to show what is on offer ?

This was my first visit to Threlkeld Quarry. I had seen photos of previous events and charters, but I didn't really know what to expect. I was with my wife and 7-year old grandson, and I wasn't sure that the site would be suitable for them to walk around in poor weather. It turned out I needn't have worried. You can go pretty well everywhere and just need to take care and avoid the puddles.

The quarry itself is the perfect setting for quarry engines for all the reasons that you state. The volunteers were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The only minor down-side of attending a gala day is that it's not so easy to frame a picture that excludes other visitors. But with my wife and grandson the charter wasn't really an option.

I came away absolutely determined to attend next year's event, whatever the theme, and so I'm disappointed to read that there might not be one. I personally loved the gathering of Quarry Hunslets (plus supporting cast), but maybe it was a bit same-ish for people who attend these events regularly. Also, there seems to be a hard core of engines that do the round of 2ft galas, including a few from Statfold Barn. There are probably good reasons for this, but maybe there's a case for looking around for something a bit special, e.g. an engine that rarely leaves its home tracks.

Another thought is to reduce costs by having fewer visiting locos and adding a couple of home-based diesels to the roster.

Whatever you decide, you have my gratitude for subsidising an event that we enjoyed enormously. Even my wife had a good time. :)

Most excellent event firmly in our calendar every year, we just like watching (as well as photographing) all the microcosmic scenes that unfold almost by the minute, where did the whole day go? A selection from Saturday, as different as I can make them.

Please forgive my ignorance, but why do some Quarry Hunslets have cabs and others don't?
