Just out of interest this is the amount of algae/goo that was cleaned out of the fuel tank of my Foden that built up from November 2014 to June 2015. It is nearly an inch deep in the middle.

A short video from the trackside of the mail drops on Sunday, with the Deltic sounding excellent

Failed at Sleights, possible engine/generator failure. Reports of fire from exhaust too. Not sounding too good, but nothing official as yet.

  8. Oops, looks like someone forgot a tail lamp.

Strewth I hope not, Martin has had one catastrophic engine failure a few years back. Fingers (and everything else) crossed that it's not too serious.

The guard was using a bardic lamp on there so it could be rotated between red and white as the train propels to the apparatus location (about half a mile) and then sets back for 3 run pasts each time.

As an aside, I recently acquired a go-pro so decided to go for something different over the weekend...

Looks like bad news and really feel for Martin Walker at the moment . Picture posted on his facebook page showing fractured crankshaft between B Bank and C Bank

Desperately sad news, they have had a good run with her, and Martin mentions maintenance was scheduled soon at NYMR.

Hope a way can be found to resolve the issues asap, and get her mainline again.

I wasn't sure from the quote I'd seen whether it was scheduled maintenance, or use by the NYMR.

That's truly a sickener, I feel for Martin Walker. He's trying his best with Gordon Highlander and RSG and he doesn't deserve this bad luck. IIRC last major disaster was a rod through the side of the crankcase. Stripping that lot down is just a bit more than a weekends work, it's not for the faint hearted. If they get the unit back to Huddersfield I'll dust the toolbox off, see it I can still squeeze into my overalls and I'll go and lend a hand.

Does anyone know if there's any particular reason that RSG has only adopted racehorse identities at her than regiments? For daft sentimental reasons I'd love to see her dressed up as 6 or 13… when up and running again, obviously.

The logic being that only Finsbury Park locomotives continued the GNR policy of adopting "racehorse' names whilst both Haymarket and Gateshead adopted regimental ones; one presumes that Martin prefers racehorses to regiments !

To be fair Martin deserves a nice chunk of luck with RSG, and getting her mainline on 2 again.

I know why the Deltics were originally named, I just wondered whether there was a policy against adopting regiments when masquerading as something other than RSG.

It seems a bit unlikely that the bloke that owns both Gordon Highlander and RSG is a bigger fan of horses, no?

For me it'd be as 55 010, by far and away the most frequently observed Deltic of my youth. The last two I needed to see before I'd seen the whole class were 55 013 and finally... 55 008.
