Sorry the information I have, other than the date, is rather vague but did anybody travel on or photograph this tour back in 1983?

I believe the train traversed the Settle - Carlisle in at least one direction (possibly both), and was probably steam hauled from Hellifield, but the final destination is lost in the mists of time.

    Thanks.

Try http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/ which lists the majority of rail tours over many decades - although there doesn't appear to be one that ran over the S & C on the 11th June '83. There was one that ran over several days (10th-12th June '83) see 'The Mid-Scot Adventurer'.

    Regards,

Thanks John, but The Mid-Scot Adventurer isn't the trip in question. Neither Six Bells (nor any other website I've found) seems to have details of the tour I'm after, which was just a one day event.

Was anyone on the forum photographing/travelling on tours in 1983?

    Thanks again.

The "Sixbells" website mainly logs tours which were open to the public - it's possible that the train you are interested in was a private charter? I've a couple of books by Roger Sivitar of photos on the S&C - neither mention any train on the 11th June, alas!

Also looked at several other books I have on the S&C - no mention in any of them.

Thanks for looking John. All sorts of groups chartered trains in the 80s, but generally sold seats to the public so I don't believe it would have been "private" in that sense.

I lived close at the time but didn't photograph anything on the S&C between 28th May and the 29th June in 83, ( 18th June was the 'Cumberland Sausage' using 5690 and 4472 0n the coast). Of course that doesn't mean nothing ran over the S&C.
As a suggestion - and assuming you haven't done this already; If you are close to a preserved line with a shop or stall selling old magazines have a look for one for that period, Steam Railway, Railway World or Railway Magazine used to carry lists of tours both steam and diesel.

King 6000 & black 5 45000 were both out that day in/around Bristol but not mentioned on Six Bells.

Whilst an excellent site it is far from fallible.
