Seems a distinct possibility these will no longer be mandatory providing you have a sufficient headlight: http://consultation.rssb.co.uk/consultation/ConsultationDetail.aspx?ConsultationPackID=481

Never seem to make much difference Yellow Ends, when dirty doesn't matter much at all.
I see the new design Euro Tunnel trains are almost void of Yellow at the front now.

This always seems to come up every so often. Heathrow express thought they didnt need them in the late '90s they said the headlights on their units conformed to group standards at the time, yet they were told they had to have some sort of yellow panel. And when Ixion first went mainline in '94 that had to have additonal yellow bits around the headcode box yet a few years later it was deemed ok to have the original style small yellow panel. Intresting news though

Would be a nice option for mainline preserved diesel groups - I have always thought it ludicrous that a Class 40 (for example) cannot run railtours in its original green fronted condition yet can cross a Dutchess on the WCML going the other way without a drop of yellow on the front...

It seems this is only an option for trains with lights meeting the latest group standards.

Another Waterman success story. Went to Leeds Midland Road for exam/overhaul which stopped halfway through. Loco now dumped at Crewe with a lot of bits removed/missing.

Oh no, now that's a shame, especially, (IIRC), Ixion pioneered the return of preserved diesels on the mainline ? Are there any Peak class locomotives approved for use on Network Rail at present does anybody know ?

Dont think there are any 44/45/46's with a mainline ticket at the mo.

I was afraid of that. Shame as they were among the most individual of diesel locomotives IMO.

I was on one of Ixion's first tours. It went from Crewe to York and back. D9000 hauled the train to Crewe from somewhere and took it away again but I wasn't on that leg.

45112 was the last mainline Peak, was regularly collapsing and need restarting prior to being withdrawn, did have a decent run behind it from Brum Inter to Carnforth to meet the Duchess once mind.

Full yellow panels were (IMO) an aesthetic disaster.

I agree to an extent with the green/blue era, but from sectorisation onwards a full yellow end suited something like triple grey or NSE, or even today it goes very well with Colas.
