Light steam i always thought was being towed in steam for lubrication purposes, but its not un heard of for the leading loco to find its self being assisted from the rear  the engine looks to be at full working pressure judging by the feather at the safety valves were the crew using the run to test the new drafting arrangements on the King?

I must confess, remembering 6000 habit of hot boxes in the early 1980's I did spend much of yesterday evening with my fingers crossed!

From the video I have seen the safety valve was lifting as they passed through Reading.....

I think the term light steam should not be taken to literally.

very true, when 35005 and 850 went 37 hauled to eastleigh 850 was in steam, i knew the crew, and as the 37 got slower and slower on hazlemere bank they were asked to assist as the 37 was really struggling .

Way back in 1969, there was an open day at Worcester mpd 85A. The main attraction was 7808 Cookham Manor, then residing at Ashchurch. I saw the loco being hauled home after the event by a Hymek diesel. It was stopped at the semaphore alongside the Metal Box factory at the Perry Wood Road oberbridge. When the signal dropped, Cookham Manor burst into life and barked away, pushing the Hymek diesel. No "light steam"movement there!

I chased this movement about and saw it at several locations. Both on the MHR and the ML the diesel Loco was struggling with the load of 850, 35005 and 41312. On the MHR leg of the journey I watched the Class 33 struggling up Medstead bank until 850 gave it a hefty shove. On the ML the WCRC Class 37 seemed to be making heavy work of the load at Bentley and Witley.

Here is my video of 70013, 6023 and 60009 at Didcot last Thursday in between the ML moves. I didn't have time to film the movement to London in the evening:

Looking at RTT it seems 45699 didn't turn after working Thursday's SSE so it would be facing the correct way for Sunday's 'Waverley'.
On RTT on Sunday there is a movement from the NRM to Holgate sidings before the 'Waverley'. Similarly there is a move from the sidings to the NRM after the 'Waverley' gets back to York.

    OK, Thanks.

We’ll see what the ECS brings, and then maybe Galatea might work the ‘Waverley’!
