The GCR has posted a nice pic of 73156 out in the sunshine yesterday in the finals stages of its restoration.
Only clue to its return to steam is 'sometime in 2017'!

Looking good. That's going to be a very popular machine when it enters service.

When you upload an image, there should be a small 'button' next to the thumbnail saying 'full image'; click on that.

A lovely photo and great to see the 5th (and highest numbered) surviving Standard 5 almost ready to join its classmates in steam. I remember this loco quite well as it sat in the line at Barry Scrapyard directly behind 4277, the loco I was involved with extricating from the yard to the GWSR at Toddington at the time. Indeed, the Standard 5's footplate had made an impression in 4277's bunker! The photo was taken in August 1984, when there were still a fair few locos at Barry. Regarding the graffiti on 4277's side tank, well it was left to others to carry out that request! 4277 is now in fine (albeit in a somewhat faux livery) fettle on the Dartmouth-Torbay line.

Looks fantastic! every standard 5 has now been restored, a preservation milestone, And the youngest 5 (still in existence) at that! On the opposite end, here is a link to the restoration blog of the oldest 5 http://thewatkinsontrust.blogspot.co.uk/

Indeed a fabulous acheivement, more than a few envious and wistful glances from East Lancashire that the Bolton Loco Company engine was not able to be completed nearer 'home'. Our loss very much GCs gain and congratulations to those that had the determination to get it restored - well done.

Brilliant . And great for the restorers and for the GCR. I would say one of the best, most powerful , useful locos ever produced for their size, plus a rocking grate & hopper ashpan! Bonus!
Incidentally you seem to have a dog as an indication lamp.!

It looks absolutely splendid, almost a shame to get it dirty with all that nasty coal and oil!

Great news. It's looking like a good year for Barry survivors back in steam for the first time.
