Washford was the location for the local livestock market, so could be busy. Both there and Stogumber could 'lock on' a Goods or other working to allow passenger trains to pass, and both broke up the otherwise long sections.

It should aldo be remembered that Blue Anchor did not become a passing place until 1905.

Yes, you are correct! I recalled reading the item in Railway Herald under a photo, which was correctly captioned, but I think my grey matter may have assumed it was Braunton. Sorry.

Maybe the embarrassment of Braunton stalling on Goodrington Bank (Dartmouth Steam Railway) and having to be rescued by the service train locomotive is what is remembered here?

Ha ha ha! I only know because of the Yorkshire rhubarb triangle and what grows in my garden. Pete Thornhill is the real colour expert. I wonder what the Pantone colour is for rhubarb?:p

I was on that one! It was 21/08/2005, 60009 slipped to a stand on the climb to Churston from Paignton on a hot, dry day. 7828 was detached from its train at Churston to provide assistance to the top of the hill. It also slipped a lot on the return between Torquay and Torre, but managed to continue without assistance.

I was a member of the support crew on that - the rescue loco was 7827 & the exhaust was explosive as the Manor got the train going. Dry rail but the driver simply did not set off from Goodrington at more than the then traditional P&DR amble so the stall was no surprise!

You might like to take a poll around the local area. Slight uptick in my favourite watering hole in BL but not "as much as they had hoped for" I heard the same thing in the farm shop.
Only 2 businesses granted, but I was surprised.

Whats the BL Farm Shop like these days?

Might be a possible supplier for on train hampers?

West Somerset Railway - Then and Now #65

    Watchet Pagoda 1981 / 2017

An uncredited photo in the WSR Journal in 1981 chronicles the sad state of this iconic GWR building and the plan that there appeared to be to move it to Crowcombe.

I'm quite glad that didn't happen and it is still in its rightful place providing Watchetites with somewhere to stay dry while waiting for their train on those - Oh so infrequent - days of occasional rain in West Somerset.
