There is a condition report that comes with it, which makes me think that it probably does.

That would make the £1 price a little less of a bargain.

There is a full asbestos report that has been undertaken. I don't have the report personally, however I can put you in contact with our chairman, who is dealing with the sale. I'm told the asbestos is secure and behind panels and possess no danger if left untouched.

Good to know that it is secure, it still can introduce complications when transferring the vehicle to a new site and ownership.

Not suitable for Alf, as this thing still has a roof and windows present!

So this is an LMS diagram built by BR ?
As its probably a complete internal strip down and start again, with those discreet little windows and I cant help thinking ' Support Coach'.(Patriot ?) .. but the lack of a wide opening double door lessens the attractiveness for that purpose

Timber framed (I strongly suspect) and screw coupled (definitely), I doubt that it would allowed a network wide registration as a support coach.

Sadly, with higher standards being expected these days of volunteer accommodation, finding a use for sleepers is becoming increasingly difficult. With some compartments gone, possibly a camping coach or as accommodation for a railway themed hostel, 'selling' the novelty aspect of sleeping in old fashioned compartments.

Expanding that, is there a market for a 'wine, diner and sleeper' service, where the coach is attached to an evening diner, passengers can book compartments, and after coffee and liqueurs, retire to their compartment, sleep the night away after the train has returned to its base and then be served breakfast in the dining car the next morning.............. - Ah, well, I can dream!

(of course, there is a major issue with sleeping cars - even double compartments only have single bunks! ;))

One of my pipe dreams for if I ever win the lottery is a fully restored rake of sleepers, available for overnight galas. Probably never happen, but I hope this finds a good home anyway.

The Sleeper has been purchased by the group trying to buy GWR 2859. Location subject to 'The Board' of the unsaid railway agreeing to the move.
Will be restored as a support coach.

I must admit this tickled me a bit from their post on Facebook 'The purchase cost has been covered from the personal funds of the group'

So they have at least a quid.....

All a bit strange......asking for £30k to purchase loco,£800k to restore loco, waiting on an unsaid railway to relocate, purchasing a sleeper for the non purchased loco, waiting for a response as to where it might be restored.....cart and horse come to mind......
Good luck to them if they succeed ......

At which point, one also trusts that those personal assets are sufficient to cover transport and immediate protection of the purchase, and that the vendor has suitable assurances about the purchaser's ability to take physical possession of the carriage.

Agreed, in all honesty anyone could pay a quid for ownership, a viable and realistic restoration plan along with a funding plan to pay for it all would be more of an achievement.

One has to question why a freight engine (next to no chance of main line running, ever) even needs a support coach, let alone one which also has next to no hope of main line running, ever. At this stage of the "project" (if we can call it that) they'd be better off buying a box van to put all of the bits in.

With the work it will need that will delay the restoration of 2859 by a good few years while they make it habitable!
