Dumbleton Hall looks as though it's been painted 'photographic grey'!

Hopefully given that the frames and smokebox appear to have been painted recently, the faded appearance on the rest is a sign of sanding down ready for that to be painted as well.

Fi could have sworn last time I visited she was on an isolated bit of track, yet this time there was a rake of wagons behind her, has that track been connected up? There's a new shed going in, I imagine on the Ashburton line track bed, maybe things are afoot

No 4920 is not for sale. She is has been stuck on the isolated rail for longer than she sat in Barry scrapyard. Hopefully it won't be long till the isolated track will be slewed across and she can escape. I don't think she was painted, rather it was a younger member who spent a lot of time cleaning her up. At the moment with 3205 needing a massive amount of money and other projects on the go I can't see 4920 steaming for a while. However loan arrangements to another railway could be a possibility.

Haha. Not for sale as such but if the right people came along with a plan to restore her then a loan could be done. At the end of the day 4920 is too big for the SDR, as is the other DHPS locomotive 3803. Realistically the locos should be a stand alone society in full rather than being mashed in with the SDR.

I seem to remember that they were :) But it was the most convenient solution for taking over the running of the railway, from the Dart Valley company and ended up becoming The South Devon Railway Co.

yes i think it was DHLS that became SDR and as such they wont let the Hall go lightly.

Hardly convenient to those members of 4920 who kindly gave up their charity etc to help the SDR start only to find their own locos at the bottom of the queue and unwanted! Plus all steaming fees from both locos going to the SDR to spend on other things meaning there is no money for overhauls!

Quite so, but given the big picture, which seemed to be either take it over, or see it closed, there probably were not too many choices.

Could not maybe the Dartmouth Steam Railway help, They could restore it under an agreement, but after 4555 is finished as they have sub contracted 4277 to ESR & believe 5239 is being done in house ?
When finished they could use at peak season / when required. Then it could be used on other lines at other times maybe !

No 5239 is going to be overhaul at the East Somerset Railway and 4277 will more likely overhaul in house. As 4277 will be spending the rest of its ticket at the Churnet Valley Railway.
