Wait and see, methinks. There's a couple of decent-looking places in Littlehampton, too, so I'm sorted...

It will be interesting to see if 60009 remains on that trip.

60019 when in BR livery ran a few times down the Brighton Line with no problems but, when she was fitted with the valances during her stint as 4492, she was deemed out of gauge and replaced on a tour from Lewes.

I guess we will have to take what is available on the Bognor trip but as the day will have a tailgunner it would be nice to have at least a Class 7 up front or we will be into the usual problem of being pushed around all day because of an underpowered loco for the load.

The picture on the appropriate page of the RTC Website has been changed from Braunton to Royal Scot and the blurb says either Royal Scot or Ollie. If the former, this would be surely the first time a Royal Scot class has ever visited Sussex. The Brighton Main Line and West Sussex Coast routes are fairly gauge-friendly but the Mid- Sussex/Arun Valley line may not be so accommodating, so Ollie might be the safer bet. I photographed Duke of Gloucester at Chichester in 2004 - not the smallest of engines - but can't remember whether it returned to London via Horsham or Hove.

There remains what I suspect is fiction writing over the return route via Wimbledon but we shall see.

Reading the mainline section of Heritage Railway magazine, there is the suggestion that the tour will turn right at Horsham and head to Three Bridges. Time will tell, of course.

OK Thanks, but isn't Leander deemed out of gauge for the Cumbrian Coast

I seem to recall that as well, I know that Guardsman fitted, wonder whether a Merchant Navy does...

By a process of elimination from info in other threads, 45690 seems the only candidate so we must deduce it now fits.

IIRC, Galatea has already been round the coast in both directions so Leander shouldn't have a problem...

Would a Merchant Navy fit around the coast? I doubt it, but would make the northbound run over Shap easier than with a Jubilee.

Galatea was barred southbound at the Whitehaven area for a short while last year IIRC and was reportedly subject to minor modification to bring it in gauge. Assuming Leander has been likewise adjusted now.

Not siure about any recent changes to the infrastructure but Clan Line has worked round there in the past when the trains only ran as far north as Workington where engines were changed.

Well as I live on the line, I remember seeing 71000 Duke Of Gloucester which I think is wider than most of these engines mentioned

Think the BR pacifics had a profile no larger than a mk1 coach as part of the design brief but as recently reported 70013 has been too tall.
