Could do what they did with 35005 when it was painted Blue in the 90s and have one side with a red plate and black in the other plate.

I guess it depends which crest the loco has. Most of the preserved Merchants have red back nameplates (35005, 35006 and 35028 have red plates and I think 35027 had black and 35028 also has black)

I'm really sorry - been searching all day but can't find them. If they turn up again I'll send you them. Suffice to say mockups in OO do exist and they all looked rather good IMO.

There are and have been some instances of this already (not Merchant's, but the same applies I guess?) Leander is one currently. 70013 did for a while, but both sides are now black I believe.

For once Ralph, we are in agreement. Now get up off the floor and have a cup of tea!

So do owners preserve as it was when retired, restore to as built or, as the case is with WCRC, adopt their corporate colours if they so wish? I'm just glad they run and give me and the missus a day out...

So in the recreation of Barry Scrapyard, we will have people complaining the rust isn't the right colour?

I'll still go and have a look; all steam locos look good under York's canopies.

Hey:D now that's an idea, I wonder if Mr Smith is watching ?:D Or maybe it's a bit too late now for BIL:Arghh:
And it's not as silly as it sounds as anyone who has seen the loco hauled trains running up and down The Rhine Valley will testify, no two are the same livery. Advertising is normal on the sides of buses.
    A Wetherspoons Black 5 over the S&C..........a photographers dream.:D

If 35018 is heading for york, make sure 35029 is well chained down, it may try to limp out of the NRM and hide in the tour take, :) puzzled heads on returning to Carnforth , how did that get past security?

At 00 scale the scumbling might look realistic enough. Having seen (and ridden in) the Underground set, which looked utterly bogus, bearing no resemblance to actual varnished teak, I will take a lot of convincing that any coaches should be treated like that ever again.
