Any suggestions as to the source of a vacuum brake valve/ejector assembly matching a 1-1/2" trainpipe? This is wanted for a small Standard Gauge loco.

Quite a lot of industrial locos have been fitted with Penberthy ejectors and all the Middleton steam locos have them. These are relatively cheap and do the job. The size of train that you want to brake will determine the size of ejector you need. We use sizes 3,4 & 5, depending on the size of loco. The No.3, fitted to our Sentinel, would create a brake on 4 mk 1 coaches but it was at its limit! They are available from http://www.greenandboulding.co.uk. I think that BSS also still supply them to order and no doubt other merchants can supply. It is best to fit a pressure regulating valve on the steam side as they work best at about 80-100psi; you can regulate the steam pressure with the shut off valve but but you have to keep adjusting it as the boiler pressure varies. As for a brake valve, if you are not bothered about aesthetics, a simple ball valve will do the job. Fit a suction strainer to it, though, to prevent anything being sucked into the system.

If you are wanting something more efficient and railwaylike but much more expensive then Barry Gambles at South Coast Steam can supply all your needs.

Can we have an update on this topic please?

I'd like to know where or who can supply a small Vac Brake Ejector, brake valve, and other industrial steam loco boiler fittings.

South coast steam but i suspect there are others, many railways have patterns and get non ferrous fittings cast locally then machine them them selves

Will be looking for a SR small cab mounted type, like the one fitted to the B4 dock tanks, or something like it.
