I have seen a picture today of H class 263 at the Bluebell Railway in the works with its SE&CR livery flattened back for a repaint.

Hopefully this will be a slightly shorter thread than that for British India Line's livery, but can we expect a new livery (SR Maunsell Green or BR Black) to emerge from the works?

Not according to the Bluebell web site which states:-

His other photos cover some maintenance work currently taking place in the Locomotive Works, where the SECR H-class, whilst awaiting the fitting of replacement springs, is receiving a partial repaint.

    So good news . . . . .

I must admit, much as I love SECR livery (and pre-grouping liveries in general!), it would be nice to see 263 in a different livery at some point. SR green would be my first choice as it would match the Maunsell and SECR/LBSC bogie coaches perfectly. However, I am glad to hear that she is getting some TLC as her paintwork was certainly looking quite tired last time I saw her.

Yes your right the SECR livery is a joy and any livery change to the drab SR green or even worse BR black should be reserved for the last 6 months of its ticket preferably paid for by those that think that livery is pleasing - as you can tell I'm not of that view!

That tells us nothing, as that could mean "everything except the buffer beam". ;-)

The buffer beam would be one of the parts you would have to repaint in order to put it into BR or SR livery though... ;)

I'll try and find out next time I'm around, though I hadn't heard anything about a change of livery.

OK then, "everything except the smokebox."
