Ah but there are varying shades of Brunswick depending on how faded it is over time... ;)

I thought mid brunswick green was somewhere between laurel green and ivy green, but I saw some nettles which looked a closer match, although they've got darker since the end of August. :Wacky:

I have seen it stated very firmly somewhere on here that "Brunswick" was only the name for the nearest readily available colour of paint for models and that there are more accurate names for GWR and BR green. Something to do with "chrome"?

I think I provided the link. Comes from the Southern Locomotives website news pages.

Colour is always a vexed issue.

46115 and 35018, as post-1956 BR Green-liveried locos, were both painted with BS244 colour spec paint, which is variously called ‘Deep Bronze Green’ or, funnily enough, ‘Land Rover Green’. Pre-1956 BR Green was known as ‘Middle Chrome Green’, which was a subtly different shade, nearer to a GW colour (as the copied note shows), but BR, interestingly, never issue a precise spec reference for either.

‘Brunswick Green’ was, as has been stated, a modellers’ term, deriving Humbrol’s basic green colour, in its limited early range from the 50s, which was blue-based rather than yellow. 45593 was painted in Brunswick Green by GCR in the early 90s and looked awful - compare pictures of it double-heading with 45596, which itself always seemed to have a slightly blue tinge.

    Appreciate the insight. Thank you.

Does the Heritage Industry now use BS colour spec collectively?

Cannot answer that, but Anthony Coulls stated on here that T & R Williamson of Ripon produce a paint called BR Green which is/or is very similar to Deep Bronze Green.

BR green could be British Racing Green.

Only on NP, a wreck returned to mainline steam, by WCRC, and it descends into froth about paint.

Well done to WCRC for doing such a good restoration, I am sure small issues will be rectified shortly, and she will become a mainline stalwart.

On the back of the froth, I would paint her black again.....
