Not quite. That rare thing so lacking is “common sense”.

Sorry incorrect as the train you are on about was from Minehead to Taunton, as Taunton was the end of the line for working and not Bishop's Lydeard which was just a station on the line and not the main end as it is now for normal working.

Whilst I broadly agree with Robin about modern signs, the size ,and positioning, of the contact number sign seems sensible to me.

I have no issue with the use of modern signage at a 'modern' location as Roebuck now is. It is also visited infrequently by other than a few photographers.

Ignoring arguments waged on legal pinheads about "first", it seems remarkable that the event was not more widely commemorated: many other railways tend to be somewhat keen to celebrate their own significant anniversaries.

Maybe LSW, FS & ASG all within 7 weeks has left some tired staff (paid and volunteer)

  13. We had originally planned to promote yesterday's QB as a 40th anniversary train with a special seasonal menu, hence the roast venison served yesterday. But in the event this train sold out rather quickly, so additional promotion would have been futile.

Here's another pic of that special working on 22nd October 1977, taken by a well-known wizard:

I know a very good local supplier of venison sausages. He also has a wide selection of venison products from various species of deer.

Not much of it actually. Most of his work is managing deer populations on estates such as Highclere where Downton Abbey was filmed. He buys some of the carcasses for his own busness and others get sold to game dealers. However it does mean that he knows exactly what the source of the animal is, and that it has been humanely shot. Locally the most prolific species are roe and muntjac which are quite destructive if the population gets too high.

Perhaps we can persuade QB Steward to add venison sausages to the QB breakfast menu at a suitable supplement.

    Not sausages.

    Venison in red wine, please.

Very West Somerset - you have waved the flag, now eat the stag!

Second only to steak and kidney pudding....
