Is it any wonder that the lads at Carnforth (the ones at the sharp end who put in the hours and do the hard graft) get a laugh out of some of the c rap that gets posted on here. It's b loody pathetic. Santa Specials are all about kids and families and the fat fella in a red suit.

 

It's got to be said and I've no wish to cause offence but..........you're making a fool of yourself. The forum allows (as it should) your views to be aired all year, this Santa Special topic is neither the time or the place to continue your crusade.
Step back, have a think, and move on..............it's good advice.

 

I agree but a person has the right to have an opinion on a forum,thats what forums are for,opinions
Some forumites hide behind a like while others come out into the open and express themselves.
No two people have the same opinion, thats life

 

I don't agree that they are 'hiding.' Clicking the like button is saying you favour what has been posted (words or image etc). The only people who are hiding are those who choose to remain anonymous in their profile.

Good advice for anyone participating in forum discussions...

That said, I agree with you about the important nature of the Santa trains.
It just baffles me when certain folk allude to the impact of NP debate "at Carnforth". Sorry to break this to you, but there isn't any.

But it should be green. Red is just a Coca Cola marketing ploy that went viral in the 1930's. That said he has also been seen in purple, scarlet, light blue and more in history.

 

We are not in total disagreement. But the train is not just a Santa Special. The train is PART Santa Special and PART Christmas Dining Experience. I know a few enthusiasts who are taking the latter option as a Christmas Treat. There will be many taking their grandchildren as part of an experience.

My main point is about quality. Years in sales and marketing tells me that consistency of quality is what serves any business best. Drop the quality and reputational damage can be sever. History is littered with failed organisations who sacrificed quality. So just because there is not a "bacon butty class" for the diehards with note pads and GPS does not mean quality should decline. Treat all customers with equal respect.

I'm sure than on each day WC will look at the conditions and determine what is needed in terms of steam only or assistance. And most certainly they will not be looking here for guidance!

 

With @Big Al on this, lets see what is provided first, before making remarks.

I have a feeling WCRC will make a really good job of this, its a great way to introduce 'normals' to main line steam, enough classes for everybody.

And add Santa, excited kids, diesel assistance, warm coaches, not too elaborate an itinery, and they should have a sure fire winner.

Surprises me A1 trust has not given this a thought, maybe that will come when they have abase in Darlington, something based around York would be a definite winner IMHO.
