Trying to make sense of what the operational reason was that merited a diesel on this. Worcester is somewhere that routinely handles steam on its own. The load of 11 is appropriate for Sapperton so there must be a less-than-obvious issue. When the Scot had only 10 down to the south coast last weekend, we all understood why the diesel was included. In the event, we enjoyed a diesel free run except for approaching Horsham on the way home. All very well handled. Let's hope the same prevails today although Sapperton will presumably have the inevitable assist.

Yes about 396 tons plus 57.314 so over 500 tons. Nice dry day so far but maybe WCR worried about Sapperton this evening. Great shame as I am sure Ray Poole could handle 46100 on 11 . We will see. First time in many years I have gone on a trip which should have been DL free but wasn't.

Couldn't ever see it being diesel free Don, so didn't book it from the start. Sapperton has no run up eastbound with the 50 at Stroud; and it also has tree/shrub lined sections on the 1 in 60. The Duchess slipped badly with only 10 on on the 10th.

Interesting, the cloud was very reluctant to break at Eckington despite teasing several times

The sun came out fully just after the train had past (of course) - I think I have set the white balance a little warmer than the light actually was in reality.

No problem with that it often helps if the sunlight is marginal. At Eckington the sun came out very briefly a few minutes before the train, but much better about 10 minutes later,

Must admit I'm amazed at the amount of members who travelled ed or live in my local area going by the contributions here. Plenty in locations familiar to me!

I’ll post my video from Chalford marley lane bridge in a few days, but she sounded to shut off a few times but not due to slipping, unless the driver caught it early enough. Anyone on the train hear similar sounds?
