To have the area locked up to control the flow of interested folk seems perfectly reasonable to me- the last thing you want is to have a vehicle left in the way the day before and not moved, preventing access (I have had similar issues in the past with work....)
I imagine that IR and team also want to just be able to get on with the job without any additional bods kicking about asking questions or getting in the way.

Likewise, making sure the area is clear prior to bringing in cranes, to conduct a lift of this sort again, seems reasonable- certainly from a H&S point of view.

Either way, it can be seen with the purchase of a platform ticket which will doubtless be earning the railway a few quid which is great!

My fault, I tipped them off a couple of months back that Scotsman was coming here and so it's been on their radar. I've been waging a bit of a one man crusade the last few years. I let them know well in advance before each of the steam charters that come here but they're never interested. Seems only the possibility of Flying Scotsman piqued their interest!

Maybe you could suggest they don't use the terms "locomotive train" and "The Flying Scotsman"! ;)

For those who haven't seen it, trailer for a documentary made about Flying Scotsman's visit to the Bluebell earlier this year.

Full film available to purchase, including a starring role for fully 20 seconds from your's truly! (Don't let that dissuade you ...)

Don't worry Ian, I'm only in it for about twenty seconds and it's all over very quickly!

Having just watched the whole thing, it's a nice record for those of us that were there, in any case.

Quite. It's nice to see the view from the outside when you've been involved on the inside.

A trip to Wansford today yielded a picture of the "Accidental Atlantic" :).

    Accidental Atlantic Wansford [2] 2017-10-29.jpg

I had gone there hoping for a ride behind 78018, but instead had to make do with some 'Spamcan' instead :D No matter, a trip to the shop also yielded a 92 Squadron mug and fridge magnet for home.

I was disappointed to read the second paragraph of this notice though.

However, I did notice some young families getting a chance to go up to say 'hello' to Thomas in the yard.

Some people... I hope that wasn't the reason I saw les flics there when I arrived.

Hope you enjoyed your visit! The loco superintendent moonlights as part of the constabulary when he's not playing trains. And was heavily involved in the Halloween Wizard's trains this weekend, so I suspect that may have had something to do with it!

Having not been up since Scotsman arrived it's disappointing to see that areas have had to be cordoned off because of the visit...

Ah, that'd explain a lot... Oh yes, certainly enjoyed my visit! I've been there a few times this last few months, having not been since The Deltic Fenman back in the early 80s and a visit about a year after it opened (IIRC). Had a breakfast bap in the café :Hungry: and spent money in the shops/bookshops - made a donation too.

Hopefully will be back for when Helga is out and about :)

Just bought my copy :) Great you have Nick Owen doing the v/o too - I can listen to him all day.

No problem! If I get a chance to take some better photographs of it (or find some) I'll post them up for you :)

Considering they were running a seven coach train, it probably needed Pacific Power... (waits for accusations of big chufferitis) but I did actually hear it slip!
