There is a special from Carnforth dep 0854 to Monk Bretton loop via Preston and Bradford, back via Wakefield Kirkgate:

    Possibly 45699.

Any of our Carnforth spies see No. 45699 outside the shed this afternoon?.....

Was wondering how long it would take before someone spotted it. I understand it's a special for Mr Smith. 45699 probably ran over that route back in the day.

Has it had a change of livery for this sentimental journey perhaps? :-o

Unlikely as Galatea was allox to Bristol Barrow Road and Shrewsbury from about 1951 until withdrawal.

It's an outing for Carnforth staff I understand but who would want to go to Wakefield for the day? The livery change has been rumoured, I suppose it depends if they have got any green paint left over from 35018

Rather depends, there are some OK pubs there and nice architecture and stuff!

In terms of livery change black numbered 98699 would be a popular choice. ;)

Anyone know which way around the train will be leaving Bradford? Do we suspect arrival with 45699 & Diesel departure or vice versa?

I think it has to be diesel from Bradford to Monk Bretton. Presumably the routing is to allow it to be steam-hauled for most of the outward journey and all of the return.

It's not going to Wakefield for the day - it only calls there on the return. It's a day out to Monk Bretton loop....the journey is obviously more important than the destination.

From what I can see, Monk Bretton loop seems to lead on to a freight only branch to Ardagh glass in the outskirts of Barnsley. After some rare track mileage perhaps?

Really? Sheffield to Cudworth? One would have thought that Bristol to York via Normanton would have been possible on occasion, but I stand to be corrected. Anyway, back to the trip.

Possibly. Or perhaps it's just a convenient stabling and watering point (at the loop for the coaches and Ardagh glass for the loco, I would imagine). I wonder if perhaps the passengers are being bussed to somewhere from Bradford and then dropped at Wakefield for the return.

45562 Alberta, withdrawn 4/11/67. Quite a coincidence (isn't it!) this special is heading for where the last Jubilee's finished off their working days 50 years ago.
