Thank you very much Paul Whitehouse for your " set the record straight " post , it was enlightening . I can't imagine any recent WSRA Chairman doing anything similar . IMHO the Association is very lucky to have a chairman of your calibre .

Regarding the demise of FOCHS, it has to be said that the station at CH continues to be well maintained and looked after by a keen, committed and happy band of volunteers. It is looking very smart indeed. The relationship to the Plc via the stationmaster seems to work fine.

Paul, The PW gang collect rubbish, in essence that is their job, that is not including the rubbish they leave along the whole 22.5 miles of the line. The area is not a secure one, there are no facilities whatsoever, it is too isolated from the rest of the line & in full view of all travelers. Whereas Williton is more accessable to all areas being midway, facilities already in place (most) & the Sherings yard is more hidden away out of site but readily accessable for delivery or collections, in my mind a win win scenario.

I was talking about FOCHS not the current management. The mismanagent continued due to the committee members allowing the bad management to continue. Neither did the WSR PLC take action even though the General Manager was an ex officio committee member. Hopefully the new regime will prosper.

Sorry but no, I'm not making any assumptions at all. Nor am I making any comments directly about the WSR.
I am simply commenting on the fact that there are, quite frequently, some significant disagreements between individuals on here which do, on occasions, drag on for some while and that when these are viewed from afar or by the casual 'drop in' reader, they could easily give the impression that things are not as they should be (and now are :) )

It seems you are making wrong assumptions that much of what gets discussed on here represents a true picture of the real WSR world. You only have to read what Paul Whitehouse and Frank Courtney have said to see that things are much more healthy than you think.

Peter, please read it again and then tell me where you think I am referring to any situation on the WSR. That's why I underlined "...on here..." and"...impression..." to try and emphasise that my comments were a) about posts on here and not in any way directed at the WSR and b) that the posts could give the impression of continuing troubles where there are none.

Oh, you are hard work tonight...:)

I have read what you said again. Note that I started by saying “I seems” because your statement was a long, somewhat convoluted sentence. Even after reading it several times it is hard to be sure of the point you are making. I am sorry if I did not get your drift the first time. Based on what you have now said I withdraw my comments.

West Somerset Railway - Then and Now #129

    Washford 1971 / 2017

Here we are on the fateful 2 Jan 71 when BR ran their last passenger trains on a suitably grey and gloomy day. A slightly wider shot captures the modern day S&DRT facilities as viewed from the western end of the station.

The pictures just go to show what can be achieved at Dunster.

It's hard to believe its the same station!
It shows what an excellent job the S&D people have made of the station.

It's great that we won an award but we should be asking ourselves how we can come first next time.

  15. Indeed. But first we need to know what they judge us on. Hopefully someone can point us to the judging criteria. I had a good look online but found nothing.

Also the opposition is quite strong. The Dunster scrapyard and linear scrapyard cannot have helped ur case. Bother the winners premises have imaculate grounds.

Wells Cathedral has a Visit England "Gold Accolade" which is not easy to get. No shame in being beaten by them.

I think I read somewhere that Wells has the smallest Cathedral in England.
