That sounds right. Was that 27 tonnes or tons? I seem to recall 25 tons old money?

How did they manage abroad? It has been said on NP that even if wagons were fitted the hoses were often not connected due to the time it took - hence the UK tendency to run unfitted but it seems that Europeans & the US ran fully fitted freights from the adoption of the continuous brake

I'm very pleased to see this project succeed, and those responsible should take a bow.

It was always one of those projects that when hypothetically suggested in the past, some amongst us sniffed at it as being "pointless", a siding space stealer, waste of money/parts and a commercial non starter.

Whilst I accept that some of these opinions can still be aired now that it is built, the enthusiast in me celebrates the fact it made it from sketch to reality, after a super injection of hard graft! Well done guys!

I agree; truly a case of WIBN combining with vision and resources to produce a fuller recreation of an era.

If NSW practice is anything to go by, the train simply will not depart until it is all connected and working throughout the train. That is, of course, on continuous brake fitted trains. The last non-air trains ran circa 1978, from about 1920 they were geographically limited to the Newcastle area coal lines. The few vehicles that were not air-braked after 1920 had a through pipe which had to be connected.
