My working life now has me travelling the length and breadth of the UK, some times with expenses paid and at other times with them included in the fee I am paid, and I have to say that the experience gained from using the paper timetable and fares Manual is still invaluable in being able to ‘ask the right question’ of modern electronic systems, helpful as they are.

Hope whoever is in charge of the Webcam gets it fixed before the new running season, it's still wobbling about in the wind like a jelly...

 

Best thing would be for you to report it to railcam.

 

Everyone involved is aware. We may have to wait a while before this is resolved. Let's hope the wind drops...

A friend of mine defines a car as "dumped" if it's parked with the wheels more than 1 inch away from the kerb.

 

So who decides if a check rail is necessary? A railwayman , or a penpusher?

 

It is very good news to see 9351 making substantial progress.

Well you could try searching with Google just like I've just done

Check rails

60 Check rails should be provided on curves of small radius where long, rigid-wheel-base vehicles are used.

Note: For example, on standard gauge track, if the rigid wheel base exceeds 3000 mm, check rails should normally be provided on curves having a radius of 200 m (10 chains) or less.

Although I'm no expert in such areas - and I'm sure there is much more guidance in the usual text books on P-way.

I gave you the detail earlier.
Check rail to be fitted on curves of 200m or sharper. post 8843
I also rechecked against a current PWI (Permanent Way Institute)handbook and the limit is still the same.
No mention of wheelbase limits in my response or to be found in the handbook.
I also cannot recall seeing any wheelbase comment in any relevant NWR standard on curvature.

Also to be considered on tight curves like this, is the provision of rail greasers and possibly check rail greasers as well.
They do drastically reduce rail and flange wear.

 

Used to have a man in front waving a red flag as a warning... I guess having a bell instead could be because the horn doesn't work?

 

You don't suppose PW are just using up the old rail in an effort to clear the yard do you?
