Been there done that :) Blue Peter from Finsbury to York via Nottingham and D9000 fast back to the cross. The steam leg was frankly a nightmare, never got a chance to get going, being looped everywhere, but the trip back behind Royal Scots Grey was something special, we flew back. Look forward to doing it all again :)

I think the owner has been quite good with managing various Limited companies, being in asset and equity management, I wouldn't question it. One advantage is that Locomotive Service can give a haulage contact to the company that owns the loco, possibly making the process of LS hauling someone's else's tour easier.

He has also created a separate limited company for 'Saphos trains'. The brand name under which LS will be running tours. A bit odd, considering its LS that have the TOC status, but all the locos and coaches are assets of other companies

Doubt it - because the advertised tour was for 46233/60009 and I don't know anyone - myself included - who'd chuck away £260+ just because there was a 'Bodysnatcher' on the back; no refunds are given on that basis! My travelling companions, for want of a better phrase, were five ladies across 2/3 generations who were being treated to the trip by the matriarch as a Christmas present: the younger ones were all professionals taking a day off.

If it is, I'm in and @Victor , break out yer credit card or are you expecting me to pay for the staff?! ;)

Not dissimilar to the Carnforth based outfit which is comprised of a myriad of separate companies each with different functions?

OK - fair point on the locos advertised, but my other points remains (though I still think it is a factor).

And yes, a tour with Tornado one way and a Deltic the other way is advertised.

I should have put a bet on my guess earlier in the thread!
Excellent news. The Deltics now have a brighter future. The news has now been tweeted by The Railway Magazine.

I'm pleased that Martins 2 machines have a new home, a brighter future, and Martin and his small team are staying, being involved etc. and a big thing to remember is the Deltics will have access to excellent engineering facilities, no more having to go 'cap in hand'............"can we use your garage please to service our locomotive"?
As for breaking out the credit card........... I'm looking for a bit of part time work for Mrs V to help eek out our pensions she's a good worker but a bit frail so please.............no coal rounds, those 25kg bags are too heavy for her.;)

I think you'll find the company structure is for both tax and Trust reasons; Mr Hoskin hasn't made a fortune by giving his monies to HMRC !!

  10. Nothing for me will beat 55015 blasting down the Bournemouth line in October 1981, leaving Surrey commuterland gasping in its blue-fogged wake. I am of an equal steam and diesel - well, Deltic - persuasion, but that was a special day indeed

This must be a terrific weight off Martin's mind but goodness, they are on the move quickly!

    <fx: groans>

When I was a teenager, a group of us in the O level music class went to see Mike Oldfield at Wembley. I had the job of taking a group on the train where we would meet with the music teacher and a group he'd taken in his car at a certain place. Now, here's the rub: hormonal teenager, three attractive female classmates and naturally... I am MUCH more interested in timing the Deltic hauling our train! And if memory serves, at 108mph through New Barnet :)

16's move most likely precipitated by the need to vacate Washwood Heath. Other locos based there were on the move too.

IIRC Gordon had to be out of Bodens by a certain date, may that's the reason for the quick move.

    Brilliant, thanks for that! :)

  20. The fact that you remember the speed says quite a lot :D. How many years was it before you realised that, nice as Deltics are, pretty ladies with their lumpy-bumpy bits and secret places are always worth suppressing any stoatface tendencies in the presence of? ;)

I remember a certain forum user posting a picture of a very attractive female companion next to Tornado when it first arrived for trials at the GCR, at the same time admitting that he only had eyes for the big one in grey. I didn't know whether to despair of him or merely wish that I was 30-odd years younger...

Is that a flashing hazard light wedged in 16's front footstep? If so it's a mildly ironic synergy with its preservation-era companion when it was new.
