According to the carriage survey there are a total of 7 IOWR carriages/bodies surviving, of which 6 are at Havenstreet.

We have six of them :) There are two surviving Cowes and Newport bodies but they are not at Havenstreet, they are from 1862.

The most likely outcome is that when more "Oldburys" are restored 6336 will be renumbered back to IWR 46 and redone in varnished teak and be part of the 1860s IWR train. The present 4-wheel set will hopefully be augmented by more restored LCDR coaches to make a longer 1880/90s set.

I always thought her quite unfanciable. Odd isn't it.

I am in the same boat as you, I had no idea that coach was being done, so what a great surprise!

When I heard the IOWSR were involved, I just thought Channel 4 would swoop in on their latest 4-wheeler that has been in works, and film it's final restoration work which was on going in any case "in house". I'm amazed that an Oldbury has been done - I thought I'd have to wait years to see any of them done...

We will just have to commission five more series now to see the other Oldbury's through! ;-)

I thought it would be years before restoration even started on one of the Oldburys. To suddenly hear that one has actually been finished is amazing news.

Is it on a new build underframe?

I look forward to having a ride in no. 10.

To avoid stealing the thunder of Channel 4 can I simply suggest you click on the link in Post#39 above where you can see for yourself from the post someone put on Facebook. Not long to wait for the programmes now!

Is there any chance this might be testing the water for a similar programme involving the swift restoration of a locomotive?

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but I reckon (given the success of stuff like Restoration) that there might be an appetite for a show in which, say, a completely unrestored scrapyard locomotive is brought back to life. One of the Barry Ten for instance.

    One can dream...

Good idea in theory, but very hard in practice, to be a quick job, you need a complete loco to start with, then what one? and who benefits? for me it would have to be an Engine from the national collection that has a story , My offering is the Dean goods, ok getting it out would be problematical but once out, its complete, and a very missing type, So what do you do once restored, well being an inside cylinder it can run anywhere so starting with the likes of the SVR,GWR, SDR etc , it can tour the country and work anywhere, there is a spare boiler at Didcot that can be worked on separately there are very few working 0-6-0's a launch could be a gala where every working 0-6-0 is gathered and maybe some static engines also.

Last time I was there, there was one in the Swindon museum - has it gone missing recently?

Yes, these were lovely engines. It is a pity that the Mid-Wales line, with which they are perhaps most associated, is no longer with us but they did work all over the place and a working 2516 would be a major attraction. As you say, operative 0-6-0s are few and far between. The ex-LSWR Drummond 'Black Motor' class are a sad gap, with none preserved at all.
