Do we have to go through this all over again, it's been done to death so often before.

Yes, of course. I know that. I don't think you have read my post. Reduction of steam haulage from 267 miles to 191 miles is NOT "around half" as you posted!

I'd rather have 191 miles of proper steam than the 267 miles of shoveage I had on the Lindum Fayre 2 years ago.

Pleased to see the recent NRW to YRK trip also diesel free. Hey, I might be willing to give RTC a whirl again.

But today I'm happy with 5043 to York.

I applaud the efforts to get steam on in the most unfortunate of circumstances but I feel a small gesture would not go amiss.

I realize that with your connections to RTC you cannot countenance any criticism of them as an organisation.

I have not worked for RTC at all this year and will not be doing so in the future, so your realisation is incorrect. Anyway as I have said to others, whilst you wish to freely criticise are others not allowed to defend said criticism?

    +1

This really does get tiresome. I say "enjoy the haulage you get in the surroundings you have." I could have kicked off about the trip I did where 60009/46233 became 46100 and a 57; but no. I go for the journey and the experience, the substitution of 46100 was an inspired choice and I really enjoyed it - an unexpected bonus. To say "well, I didn't get hauled by what you advertised so I want my money back" is an absolute non-starter: rather like the "but I had to stand all the way to X" argument on a service train - your ticket buys you a journey and no more. On a charter, it buys you the journey and extra trimmings if you pay for them, the attraction of what's up front is more than covered by the terms and conditions.

    Anyway - where's the photos?!

A small gesture? Well a free glass of warm mulled wine and a mince pie was a good enough gesture for me and that's before the novelty of a Scot down Stoke.

Any onboard updates? Looks like it's stopped just after Stoke Jn. on the Up Slow on OTT.

Edit: Now back on the move @ 2018.

Had it worked the tour throughout, there would have been plenty from us on the southernmost GN as the conditions were perfect but sadly all we had to phot on today's specials were boxes.

Pity - and any other chances this year for me to christen the 'new' camera on a main line charter have been taken over by work :(

A very subdued run back with the crew fighting for steam all the way. Micky Valla said that they never saw anything better than 200lb on the clock. And when the brakes started to drag through Stoke Tunnel they decided that they would get the train out of the way on the slow and then stop at Corby for a blow up.

Given all the above and the usual out of path additional delays I think that they did well to only drop 20 min from Newark. Of course, a diesel on the back would have got them out of jail but why don't we instead celebrate a crew that got us home in tricky circumstances.

So Royal Scot turns her nose up when it suits her as she's done it before.

You are taking anthropomorphism much too far. There will be reasons for the Scot's failure to steam and I hope that someone knows or is working out what was wrong.

Not at all. Yes there will be a reason - coal, washout due etc etc - but definitely not the crew. Some locomotives are more 'sensitive' than others and the last time I spoke to someone on the LSL support crew who gave the impression of knowing the whole fleet, what came across was the fact that the Scot can be more tricky than some, Braunton for example. But as I said, yesterday's trip home was more to do with Micky Valla and John Shaw coaxing what they could out of the Scot and enginemanship like that from both sides of the footplate should be recognised and acknowledged as such. I don't believe we hindered any services; in fact we were held at Newark for the service from Edinburgh that was late.

I don't believe I suggested any reason! Why do you feel it necessary to defend the crew?

Nowt whatsoever but it does seem beyond the wit of some to recognise a job well done. Probably because they've never driven a steam loco on the main line, especially one that doesn't want to steam.
