    We're assuming it's a Standard 4. It could be, for example, 4422.

On a 20 or 25 year deal with the WSR, so pretty unlikely.

If we’re going for a shot in the dark, what about a de acquisitioned, 3 cyl LMS tank with LT&SR connections ? nice thought though isn’t it.

Oh, I know whose they are and I don't believe they're at Ecclesbourne Valley either, unless they have moved there recently.

I was meaning the bottom half! Well, OK, possibly rather less than half.

More challenging restorations have been done in the traction engine world. I continue to dream...

Or could it be 80104?! In working order, and SLL seem to prefer to concentrate on their Bulleids.

Even better thought, add No 80 to the fleet? :)

Nice, but we were looking at JB's potential purchase of a class 4, Thundersley is a 3P.
As much as I'd love to see it restored...

    Class 4.
    Running.
On hire to a railway it won't be staying at.
    Has run on the mainline.
Possibly with a personal historic connection with Mr bunch and mhr.

    The answer is......

    Douglas!

It better not be, Douglas already has entered into an arrangement with another preserved railway. Also yes, I realise this was probably a joke :p

Haha, yes it does all fit for Douglas doesn't it? Apart from working on the mainline surely?

In general terms though if the ownership of a loco changes the new owner is not obligated to fulfil the terms of the original contract to which he was not party. Hypothetically speaking a railway would have a legal claim against owner 1 for breach of contract but unless some sort of lien was in place on the loco itself owner 2 could walk away from the hire with the loco. Due diligence required, of course, but the new owner may choose to accept existing liabilities as part of the purchase.

I don't think the railway that owns that beastie are willing to sell... Especially after not long after forking out for an expensive overhaul... Although stranger things have happened...

i cant think of any other possibility, the ex mainline bit should narrow it down unless he's just got a manor, but that he's said a 4, to me means a LMS or std 4

I know where your coming from Martin but when you think what the NYMR have accquired over the last 5-10 years or so 75029, 76079, 44806 and haven't they paid for 80136's last overhaul? I don't see them wanting to sell, certainly not just yet anyhow. Anyhow I'm sure it'll come out in the wash shortly! Would 80064 be worth a punt?

I wouldnt think that would go down to well at the MHR, as the railway would in effect be losing a working engine newly restored for an out of ticket engine unless that was the deal that saw 73096 return to the MHR, JB gets a working standard 4 in exchange for his 5 that needs a full overhaul and both parties drop any legal actions , i can't see that going down well, the board may well come to regret it at th next AGM

wouldn't it be the case that the MHR overhauled the loco back to the condition it was in at the start of it's previous stint ion service rather than overhauled it in the expectation of getting to use it for the next ten years?

Would seem to be excluded by virtue of not currently being in full working order.
