An NNR supporter has bought the shareholding and the General Manager of NNR has joined the 76084 company board as a director to represent the purchasers interest.
I would suggest it is staying at NNR

Maybe. I always thought if 43106 ever came on the market the M&GN Society would be the first in line...

I suppose the question is did said loco come to market, most locomotive sales tend to be purely off market affairs?

In the rabid speculation that has characterised this thread, has any class 4 loco not been mentioned? :D

The whole hobby is pointless if you take that to it's logical conclusion. Think of it as a bunch (sic) of lads in the pub discussing it. There doesn't have to be a point to it, it's just of general interest to many

Indeed they are and the if you want the best price would be to place it on the open market, however most private owners do all this for the "love of steam" and generally want the loco to go to a good home with a safe future not bought by some rich twerp with no idea in the same way as some classic sports cars end up! Other factors may come into it like future location i.e. the new home being near to where the former owners live (City of Wells springs to mind) and there are a whole host of reasons for all this.

When locos do come on the market its sometimes best to keep it all very quiet until the deal is done otherwise it can get very messy with rival bids comming in to upset the apple cart and makes all this petty secrecy in the announcement of JB's purchase somewhat curious to my eyes. Still it keeps NP in idle chatter I suppose:)

I guess if Mr Bunch or one of his associates is following this thread, they are probably having a good laugh. It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to be a loco no one has thought of at all.

I'm trying to get my head round a possible scenerio where the railway would be placed in a situation where they would have to do a deal that is in effect a loco swop

do you really think they think like that? I'd say they aren't any different to anyone else, and probably enjoy exciting developments as they happen, just as we all do.

76079 ran around 17,000 miles on the NYMR last year and is owned by the Trust. They are not in desperate need of the money and there would have to be agreement from the Trust Board for it to be sold - unlikely, I would suggest and I certainly haven't heard rumours to that effect. 80136 is more of a worry as it is owned by a separate trust and is on hire to the NYMR on a long term agreement, but I've heard no suggestions of them being unhappy with their lot at the NYMR - and it has never run on the main line in preservation. The only loco that fits that bill is 80080, perhaps the PRCLT want the money to put into a pacific. I think hell would freeze over before 43106 (as suggested lower down the thread) left the SVR. I think its aging supporters are much much more likely to donate it to the SVR Trust.

*pure speculation alert* I seem to recollect reading that 46203 needs a hell of a lot spending on it and thus in light of well publicised issues with 6201 they have decided to bite the bullet as its the only chance to get a Princess main line for the foreseeable?

No disrespect to anyone but in light of his very long standing involvement within the movement, I assume that Mr Bunch is no spring chicken either which seems to rather defeat the object of the 'aging supporters'.

Or they need the money from 80080 to "buy into" 6201 - again pure speculation!

there is of course one other loco 80078? ok i know its only just been restored, but at what cost to the owner? if you have in effect gone very close to the wind, then an out of the blue offer may make you think about your long term stability. But my money is still on some kind of deal, Mogol, dropped a hint, and it would be an answer to several un answered questions .

The term "aging supporters" came from the post proposing it as a candidate, I merely repeated it!
