It did run on the mainline in the 80's albeit only into Totnes station....

I think 'hint' is a strong word. I am speculating just like everyone else here. I would make the point however that a lot of faith is being put in both the accuracy of Mr Bunch's statement and Steam Railways full and accurate reproduction of it. It wouldn't be the first time some information has been planted by a shrewd business person in order to help a deal elsewhere or in fact that Steam Railway managed to get the facts a little 'confused' or over simplified.

Fun as the guessing is....:Morewaitingisrequired:. As Saggin Dragon suggests, it could yet be a new Yacht.:D

The closest fit to the reported criteria does seem to be 80080. Whilst not working at the moment, I believe it's only undergoing running repairs rather than a major overhaul.

So either it's 80080, or Steam Railway have got their facts wrong (surely not?!)

Before it had it's sex change then. Interesting, never knew an Austerity had gone mainline in preservation.

In fact then, surely this makes Douglas the only loco that fits ALL the criteria? Mystery solved!

It certainly is and does rival the WSR ones for conjecture and whiling the time away before more important things occur. :D As previously mentioned, if he reads this - and I am sure he does - he will be having a good laugh at it all.
What surprises me is that the heritage railway arena has more leaks than HMG so how come nothing has yet been 'blabbed'. ;)

Would Robert at Rainhill 150 count? Still owned by the NCB then, but long after the end of steam.

If I was a betting man I think I would go for that standard tank that came back into service this year. The one that used to be owned by swanage. Lol. Tis good fun all this guessing game!

That had crossed my mind, its an expensive business is restoring a large steam engine plus a Std 4 tank is quite sort after economic to run, large enough, but not too big OMG, I'm turning into PH :eek::Bag:

According to our load limits, about 2.5, though it depends on the Terrier ... With the infinitely superior SECR locos, we reckon on 1P + 0P = 4ish... Algebraically, P + (H or C) = (Q or U) :)
