    You have a time machine and you can go back to the 1950s/60s and save one Engine for preservation that was subsequently scrapped. Which would it be ? (it has to be a steam/diesel loco which now doesn't exist)

    Of GWR kit the Saint would be a pretty good bet, but also on my list might be 1287, the last outside framed pannier tank, which survived as a stationary boiler until 1953, one of the 4400 class small wheel small prairies, and one of the 3150 class large boiler large prairies.
    Other lines - one of the southern Zs would be neat.
