How's about we arrange for a convoy to rendezvous somewhere? 10000, GT3, Falcon and Kestrel over to Norwich, a quick word with Mr Harvey... Quick exchange of cash, open the doors of the Tardis and look the other way...

How about more std 2,3 & 4's than could ever possibly be used, so that we could all get some peace and quiet?

One of the six Southern Q class locomotives I remember seeing lined up at Ridham docks in Kent ready for scrapping, they were all gone within a week. very sad :Shy:

Its a nice thought, but it would only be replaced by complaints that the wrong locos are being kept running...

That is quite interesting. Makes the question are there readers who were old enough at the time and perhaps had the chance to buy a loco or coach or whatever but didn't and now regret that they didn't ?

My father had the money and was looking for his first car and also went to look at a Steam Roller that was being sold off by a local council. It was in full working condition and they virtually begged him to take it, even some free coal chucked in, but he was living with his aunty and would have had to put it outside her house (ie nowhere to put it) so he didn't buy it and spent they money on a car instead. Of course the car is long gone and the Roller would now be worth a lot.
It was going for scrap if nobody bought it.

I bet most of us can also think of examples where someone had enough money to purchase something, but have been unable to sustain the continual expenditure required to store and conserve it, resulting in it just rotting away or worse...

There was a very interesting series of articles in Railway World about 20 years ago by the late Dr Peter Beet about the early days of preservation at Carnforth, which detailed a lot of their missed opportunities from Duchesses down to another J72.

I was once offered a Centurion tank in running order, (obviously the weapons were deactivated) for £5000. I had the money, even a place to keep it (friendly local farm) but baulked at the running costs of the RR Meteor engine :)
    Always regretted missing that one.
