I suspect Kings would be one of the classes barred from using P2 at Kidderminster, which would limit operational flexibility somewhat.

It can use platform two and has done so many times on its visits, it's usually Pacifics that have the issue with the points tight radius.

The rulebook says "in general, locos with driving wheels over 6' diameter" but notices to amend this are issued as required.

Set N ran as 7 yesterday, set L (the GWR coach had been part of it over christmas) was down to 6 but then strengthen back to 7 due to demand. I haven't heard any update since.

Both the BBC and Met Office weather forecasts for Bewdley today were for clear blue skies with a light westerly breeze. Blimey, at long last they got it right !!

Taw Valley looked the business with a full rake of blood and custards, 43106 had a near full rake of teaks, 1501 sounded wonderful and for some reason the DMU service had lots of happy punters aboard ;).

Many thanks to the SVR for a very enjoyable day.

Happy New Year to all. <BJ>

It's rather ironic that due to the failure of 53808 at the WSR, the loco has been replaced at the Winter Steam Festival by a DMU. <BJ>

A question for the folk at the SVR. What is the large hill called that is visible from Bewdley tunnel that sits in the distance several miles beyond the town of Bewdley?

The hill was covered in snow recently and looked very nice. I wondered what the hill was called.

    Many thanks. <BJ>

I think you mean Titterstone Clee Hill, near Ludlow, or it could be Brown Clee a little further north, I'll check next time I'm driving.

Callow Hill would be visible from the Snailbeach District Railway.

(...Ooo, I mentioned the forbidden words without a thunderbolt instantly striking me down - d'you think I've got away with it?)

BTW: I'd reckon on the hill in question being one of the Clees as well.

Visited the SVR both days over the weekend for the last chance to travel behind and photograph Erlestoke Manor before overhaul. Was a pleasure as always, especially with 4 other steam locos in service to enjoy too.
Here are a couple of pictures from yesterday, firstly the 1000 Bridgnorth departure heading for Bewdley Tunnel:

Then the 1405 storming past Northwood Lane.

The one to the South is Titterstone Clee, it has a radar 'golf ball' on top of it. The two peaks to the north are Brown Clee. Both are over 500m, you can see them for miles around.

To complete our journey around some of Shropshire's hills, here is Callow Hill, or more properly, Bromlow Callow, as seen over my garden gate during the recent snows:

    Snow & BST 07-12-17 022.JPG

As mentioned by Ian upthread, a good view of the SDR (*) trackbed can be had from the top of the hill.

    Cheers,

    Alan
