It’s on my Euromillions list, though I haven’t yet worked out if I’d have more fun in the front or the back ...

At least the back half of the Bug still survives. So does that mean it'd be a 'rebuild' rather than a 'replica'? Cue multiple pages of pointless argument LOL!

It quite clearly says no long term hires to heritage lines. That doesn't mean there will be no visits to heritage lines.

They worked fine, but there's another thread to discuss that...

Like all else, there were good and bad examples. The Teutonics are, rightly, depicted as good. The Greater Britains, and John Hick, classes were not, but much of this was down to the boiler, which had a so-called combustion chamber partway down the barrel.

Or how about an actual working Dean 3031 class Single?[IMG]

Didn't Didcot have a proposal for one of those? What happened to that project - is it still "live"?

Its strongly rumoured to be on the GWS want list.

My guess is that they won't want to kick anything new off until some of the current ones are complete. I don't know (no idea at all) but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some patient ladies and gentlemen somewhere wearing white gloves, looking at old documents and making lists and getting information together.

Not the least of the challenges is that there was an amazing amount of variation in the singles, and one could argue for years over exactly what configuration to build one in. There were at least four major boiler variations, different front bogies, variant frames on those that had started life as broad gauge 2-2-2s and the list goes on.

IIRC the chap behind the project passed away a couple of years ago.

Reason why I chose a Dean Single, was because although a replica was built, it is only a permanent static exhibit at a restaurant, and the Midland, Caledonian and Great Northern railways all have a Single preserved.
Sad the man behind the Didcot 3031 project died though.

Careful, these are a bit WIBN......

Struggle to haul a decent fare paying load so cannot be justified as a new build.

We can't fall into the trap of small chuffferitis!?

Speaking of things, has anyone heard of any recent progress with the George the Fifth project?

I have had a quick look at the website and the blog news hasn't been updated since Jan 2017. What was the meeting at Kidderminster like? I believe they have their frames cut. Do they have a location to build the engine yet?
