While I’m at it can I also put in a vote for ‘Cornwall’, a vote for Met 23 and a vote for ‘The Major’ (preferably double heading with ‘Cecil Raikes’)?

The Thompson B1 Society got the superheater header for use in 1264. As for the rest of the boiler it ended up at this "Sail & Steam" outfit based in Brightlingsee, where it was eventually scrapped unfortunately.

    For me it's gotta be:

    Q1 for something slightly unusual.
    Duchess of hamilton.
City of truro, gorgeous loco but believe it apparently needs a new boiler barrel to run again as the old one was supposedly leaking.

A new build dream. I'm doubtful this could be done but I'd love to see a leader built. I know they were temperamental but a modern designed loco & looked really smart.

Just don't see why a Q1 never found a home anywhere. Powerful, economical, easy to maintain. Ideal in many respects for a heritage line.

Stirling or Bulleid? I’d quite like a Stirling version ...

As for the Bulleid one - my understanding is that the NRM were keen to have it back, as locos that could tell a wartime story are rare in the collection.

Call me wierd, but I've always rather liked the unpretentious looks of the Bulleid beastie. Great boiler ... shame about the brakes!

Note that J69 no 87 and J17 1217 have been mentioned in previous posts but don't recall seeing E4 no 490 mentioned.

Let's go into real fantasy land with all three plus 69621 alongside 564 and 8572.....

I'd like to take Evening Star out for a joy ride on the S & C

.... and I'd like to do the same on the S & D .... which is probably only marginally less likely! :(

I'd settle for taking Evening Star for a ride on any line.
