Too many Rivet Counters on board this thread. Lets just remind them that 95% of the people who ride behind her won't care what colour she is 'supposed to be', what region she came from, or even what country for that matter. Most will just be happy that there is a Steam Loco' puffing away up front and they are enjoying their day out.

Well done to all the team involved in the restoration, keep up the good work, she looks just great. Ignore the knockers, they are not the ones who bother to get their hands dirty !

  4. What a gloriously sweeping statement from someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the people they are discussing!

Great photos, and (purist alert) not one loco in an ‘authentic’ livery :)

Whilst I can't off hand remember which of the K&ESR Yank Tanks it was. Here's the one that visited the Tanfield Railways' Giants/Heros' [not sure which] of Industry Gala of a few years ago. When it was turned out in N.C.B. colours, as both the N.C.B. and it's predecessor Coal Companies bought a few. As it stands because each concern only bought a single or pair of Yanks, they didn't last long in service. So a rare sight indeed in N.C.B. livery to say the least, as they were withdrawn in the fifties I believe, certainly didn't survive into the sixties AFAIK.
Edit: It's Legends of Industry rather than Giants/Heros.....

The overhaul has already started! 65 is being treated as a priority.

In the next two years, we should get 65 and 4253, which will allow for 1638 to be withdrawn early.

By that do you mean 1638 will be withdrawn once the both of them are back in traffic, or it will allow the loco to be withdrawn a few years before its 10 year ticket expires without detriment to the operable fleet? I thought 1638 had only recently been overhauled...

I believe it will be necessary to withdraw at least one of the locos early to avoid all the ten- yearly overhauls falling due close together again.

  17. Does this mean that there is any possibility that both Maunsell and Wainwright may actually be in service at the same time?

How long have I got to earn enough to sponsor both for a repaint into Ashford Works livery for when/if that day comes? :)

Its poor planning on behalf of the KESR If it has several of its larger engines all due to come out of service with in a very short time span, As regards early withdrawal , sorry i can't see it being allowed, most likely the commitee will be pressured to loan the engine out to earn some income , rather than withdraw an engine early . plus they will be short on Small engines as 32678 is due to come out of traffic in the next 18 months, and charwelton soon after i believe, so there may not be the scope to withdraw any engine before its ticket expires,
