Also depends on crews signing for them (traction knowledge) and route knowledge. Not sure what the situation is but a few years ago if a driver didn't drive a particular loco type for 6 months he had to do the course again. Not sure what the rules are now.

 

The public probably aren't interested in diesels. They are, however, probably interested in days out on a train, even when they have no interest in railways, as such. People don't generally go on bus tours because they are interested in buses.

 

While I appreciate the economics of it, IMHO most diesels and the larger steam locos really need to be experienced on the main line

 

Which is why I'm very tempted to save up for the Alycidon/Tornado trip later this year

 

Reported on Twitter that 34046 will remain as 34052 for the rest of this year for the RAF100 Anniversary.

Can't wait for them to do the same with the Airfix Range. MK22 Spitfire with a Griffin engine? I'm in!

 

Captain Slow (aka James May) already did the 1:1 scale Spitfire kit ...... though I don't think it ever flew!

 

Saw it at Cosford! Still a rather impressive piece of kit when you get up close to it!

 

I'm waiting for them to introduce an Mansell L class

There was that website for a Maunsell L1 kicking about for a couple of months a while back, but that kite evidently didn't fly ..... possibly because the idea seemed to be no more than the website. The whole thing had a distinct "batch of 'Leaders' will be the second project" sort of whiff to it.

 

The Maunsell L1 was the second project; the first one was a Thompson L1. You can probably find the thread if you dig around - but if so, please keep it quiet! All part of Nat Pres folklore now ...

Quite a good thing of LSL's to have such a display facility for engines out of turn.

If I ever wind up down there I'll have to give it a look.
