100 years, well that`s a bit exaggerated, but I understand your thoughts.;) It takes time to build a project lik this, but, to follow the exciting building progress and see new, shiny, (british) produced metal pieces to a new steam locomotive, isn`t that half the fun?:)

Thread drift aplenty here - but off the top of my head, the 3 Norman Mckillop books I have at home are Enginemen Elite, Ace Eginemen and How I became an Engine Driver

Really?! I looked at that in complete awe - watched it a few times, in fact (work today is very quiet).

It was seeing this that led me to Wolf Of Badenoch, oddly enough - in between looking at videos of Mullard making cathode ray tubes and an Invacar being returned to running order. Yes, it was a quiet day at work...

Did You find out if the gauge one model has real rotative cam valve actuation on three or slip eccentrics on two?

Having just thumbed through all 154 pages of Enginemen Elite, I can't find a mention. Convinced it is in Ace Enginemen that he is mentioned.

They worth a read then Steve.

    Is the V4 unique for a class 5 in being a 250psi machine ?

Amazing to see that people are no longer allowed a personal opinion on this thread!

Having zero interest in the A1 and P2 the V4 is the first I happen to like. My only worry is will the funding stream carry on. I would love to have a break down of the income of the P2 and see who is paying. Is it enthusiasts or not. Without the enthusiasts paying in will there be enough to complete these in reasonable time scales. The A1 trust have already said that they want the P2, V4 and V3 tank along with a rake of mark 3 coaches, a mainline connected maintenance facility and museum. I'm sure the latter could get a lot of grants but the rest will be a massive amount to fundraise for. Surely well into the 10million range.

Out of interest how much has the P2 actually raised in hard cash so far? I always hear the term pledged but that's not in the bank and could change due to deaths or personal circumstances changing. Is it still on target for 2021?

    Gav.

Erm, I think the fact that you've just expressed a personal opinion regarding the A1 and the P2, I reckon it is allowed. :)

The latest 'Mikado Messenger' stated that £1.8m has been raised out of a total of £2.8m pledged, of which £1.5m has been converted into metal already. The chassis will be wheeled this year and other funds such as the 'Cylinder Club' and 'Boiler Club' are well subscribed. Although there may be slightly fewer P2 covenantors they are giving more generously than to the A1.... I'd be interested what your definition of 'enthusiasts' is? Surely everyone involved is an enthusiast? Even those firms supporting the build could be counted as 'enthusiastic'! So, completion in 2021 looks realistic and in answer to an earlier question, only 27% of the A1 covenators are supporting the P2, which means it is likely that the V4 will also be supported by a different cross-section of people.

Whessoe Road will, hopefully, be supported by grants and the Mk3 rake will use a completely different funding stream - bear in mind that the Trust must be shelling out £100s of thousands in hire fees annually, funds that could be going towards the purchase of their own stock.
