It's not April 1st! What makes you so sure?

Because I have it on very good authority indeed. I can say no more.
In any event, until recently, this project was going to be undertaken at the SVR.

So you're suggesting that the Railway Magazine's Deputy Editor has made up the claim that he is leading the group building the engine?

I was sent this piece of information.

    GWR County 4-4-0
During the course of last year, the railway was approached by a Didcot based group planning to build a new GWR 'County' 4-4-0 locomotive. They are in possession of a number of parts and patterns and are looking for a suitable home to complete the build, as it is not possible to do so at Didcot.
The proposal which was made is that the group would meet the costs of extending one half of the DP loco shed and use that as their base.
We have had discussions with the group and have reached agreement in principle that we could provide the base they are looking for, subject to various issues still to be concluded; including in particular that space will be available in 2019 when they hope to start.
If agreement is finalised it will of course be on the basis that the loco will run here when completed.
We mention this now, as you may see reference to this in one or two railway magazines, and it is important that we make you aware first of the current position.
    Richard Johnson, Chairman, GWSR Plc

So was I funnily enough, but wasn't sure if it was for public consumption though!

Not in the least. But given that he has written a long article about how they are planning to build the engine at the GWSR and have reached agreement with the GWS - the details of which are all in the article, I was wondering which bits exactly he was lying about?

I'd humbly suggest there's a difference between fake news and premature reporting...

You know they have gone about it the wrong way... No Facebook page and haven't reached a thousand likes. Not a chance of success.
Honestly, reaching agreement about location and funding before Facebook...
(It's been a long week on the road so I'd better keep my coat on)

So is the SVR going to build 'County of Salop' so we also get a straight framed version (the style I prefer on these shorter locos)?

    :)

You forgot about a name and livery. These are vital before fundraising and engineering matters get in the way... :)

as an observation, twice in a month RM has broken stories , not officially announced by the railways concerned. I suspect much to those railways dismay.

Whilst I wish the project well the use once again of parts from the existing engines does little to enthuse me

How about building a proper County - An LNER D49 Shire? :) Much more useful.

Let one side of locomotive be like a County 4-4-0 and the other like a City 4-4-0 and a single low pressure cylinder between frames.
Two of the best for price of one. Very fuel efficient
Do heritage railways have turntables at both ends?

If a two cylinder six feet Britania did allrigth, any three/four cylinder 5 feet pre nationalizing Pacific would have been usefull also.
A new LNER/LMS/SR like three-cylinder 4-4-0 with five to six feet drivers can be a worldbeater for speed.
    If compound, also for efficiency.
    Bulleid will love it
