East Lancashire Railway - Spring Steam Gala 2-4th March

Forgive my ignorance, but, with the loco roster now available on the ELR website, is the 4E## series of trains available for the public to travel on ?

 

Class 1 and 2’s are the only passenger carrying services

I'd been told the A4 and two Black 5's were facing Bury, could anyone confirm which directions locomotives are facing please?

Hi Andrew, initially I wasn't sure regarding your suggestion for D&D, however, I now note that 2890 is named 'Douglas' so I assume 52322 is 'Donald'?

I've not been to the ELR for many years and was planning on getting some photos, specially of the A4 as time is limited on her so it would be nicer to know!

Specially as it's a two and a half hour drive!

 

I'd be interested to know too, although with the weather forecast looking decidedly wintry not sure I'll be able to make it at all.

 

All the locos face Bury-when travelling from either Heywood or Rawtenstall....

Probably unlikely, if I had two days off to do the gala then yes I would but I am working the Saturday & Sunday. It's not a railway I've travelled to often but when I have been I have paid to ride all day. On this occasion given I have barely seen the majority of locomotives running I'd like to venture away from the stations for the first time to get shots of for example, the A4 as mentioned above.

 

As far as I am aware 13065, 34092, 52322, Douglas all still face north out of Bury. 45212 faced south last time I saw it and I don't think it's been off the railway since. Haven't seen 45407 or 60009 since they arrived, 45690 doesn't arrive until Thursday as noted, so unknown at present. Perhaps some more helpful member in the know will fill in the gaps on Thursday evening.
Lots of snow forecast so it could be interesting, looks like riding Friday, line siding Saturday and Sunday. Like everyone else, looking forward to the event as usual.

 

ELR have issued amended timetable for FRI only. Saturday/Sunday as was.

Is there a charge of the Bury - Burrs Bus?
