Thought I heard the TI say "Kellingley" but I must have been mistaken given the closure date? I did hear him say that it was burning Ok but not generating enough heat. Trainee fireman on the outbound leg also. All in all a well organised and enjoyable trip. Home a few minutes early with the 86 hitting 90+ on the way!

I think it's 45699 again next week, but it will be on a different set of stock being a Steam Dreams run; mostly mk2's and probably a couple of Pullman's in the rake. Not sure how that will effect weight, but will be an interesting comparison when the past five runs have been so similar, with the same rake of carriages.

    That is pretty good!

I'm probably only telling people what they already know, but my top tip for smooth panning is about $248.99 cheaper than the $249 cost of the software. I use a reasonably thick elastic band fastened to the tripod handle and pull the head round by pulling the band rather than holding the handle and pulling it round directly. It helps to dampen any jerkiness in my arm movement.

I wonder, with Mr Buck now being at the helm of SD, whether when the date was booked it was ever a possibility that 61306 might have been in the frame for the Cath Ex CME? Reports seem to suggest it is very near but not quite complete at Carnforth. Similar size to a 5X so theoretically viable but not to be.

A Manfrotto tripod and head did also not come cheap, but no doubt our resident videographers will tell you there is no substitute for good quality equipment.

Very true Ralph as I use two tripods both with Manfrotto fluid heads that give rock solid stability to start with plus a nice pan movement but I must admit the rubber band mentioned does work .

Most editing software comes with a basic stabilizer, you can buy third party ones as stated above. I've seen people using high end broadcast fluid heads like Vinten, which can costs 1000's and you'll always get a touch of wobble if you're on an unstable footing . For me, it's all about stability and weight, my fluid head is a semi professional one, but my tripod is very heavy so I rarely need to use a stabiliser in editing, my only issues are possible over panning and when the tripod might drag a touch. Regardless, your friends pan was on point and clearly has a steady hand !
