SVR Spring Gala 16th - 18th March 2018

Well that was a 'Spring' Gala to remember! 6 visiting locos is pretty special - granted 80072 & 6023 were at the railway already. Thanks to all involved in getting Tornado and 53808 to the gala overcoming the last minute obstacles. The timetable was fairly straight forward compared to recent years, but I think it suited the locomotive line up - with 3 express passenger engines, the 7F and Std Tank it makes sense to run plenty of full line trains. Also with the slack everything seemed to run on time for the first days, and they were able to catch up pretty well on Sunday after the early delays. The cold snap made for some pretty photos, but to be honest I would've preferred to be out in some nice spring weather to the arctic blast we got! I hope that the event didn't suffer too much financially from lower passenger numbers on Sunday, from the lineside the trains were looking a bit empty.

Love that photo you've put up of the B12 there David, love that engine just need a mantle peice big enough to put it on! Must say it was was rather nice to have 2 machines from 2 different joint railways, when's that going to happen again? Oh wait 53809's based at Weybourne now...

 

It really did look superb that B12, we really need matching locos on the teak set more often! Pleased I finally got to see and ride behind it.

Thanks Matt. I would have preferred to have seen the B1 and B12 together both in LNER livery as was planned, maybe there will be another opportunity for that somewhere in future.

I was looking forward to the B1 too but the 7f looked far more at home on the LMS set! One day though! One day!
