The work would only affect people travelling from the East Where are you proposing a rail link from and to?

I would have thought that people travelling from the east would use jct 24 and those using the A303 would divert up through Westonzoyland.

That is bad news. My route to BL is to use Jct.25 to get onto the A358. I guess I'll have to come off at Jct.24 then use the A38 & A3259 to get to the A358. A slower route, but probably better than getting caught up in the Jct.25 roadworks.

J24 for Bridgwater and Hinckley Point? I did that once; I won't be repeating the experience in a hurry.

We use junction 23 as we travel from the M4 and follow the cross country route over the Quantocks. It's usually quicker than 25, much quicker than 24, and always much quicker for Stogumber and other stations to Minehead. Only rarely does our Satnav decide it's quicker via 25 and Taunton for Bishops Lydeard. If you are travelling from the south there are several cunning alternative routes to cross the motorway which won't lose you too much time during the chaos, just look at a map.

If you're coming up the M5 from the south, then the best route is:
    • Off at J26 - Wellington
    • Up the A38 towards Taunton
    • Left at the roundabout for Silk Mills
    • Left at roundabout onto A358 for BL and Minehead

That is the route from the South West which is a significant diversion for those coming from the south, or via the A303 for that matter.

I you left at J24 and went through Bridgwater you you took the the wrong exit on the roundabout. Once you leave the M5 at J24 you should take the first exit from roundabout and follow the A38 through North Petherton. Follow the A38 until you come to the right hand turn signposted Minehead A358 then just follow the A358 to BL.

    Thanks for clarification - I'd confused J23 and J24.

As helpful as the alternative routes may be, everyone else will be using them in attempts to avoid motorway delays. ;)

True, but there will always be some who say, "roadworks? Nah, it'll be alright, I'll just go my usual way."
Then they often end up with a case of :Morewaitingisrequired: ;)

The West Somerset Railway has really taken USA class S160 No 6046 to its heart and has created a special event just for it. A special train will leave Minehead at ‘high noon’ on 4th July 2018.

Denying that the American theme had gone too far, Marshall Paul Honeybear and Deputy Mark Hillock said that they were confident the train would run but were, of course, anxious about its passage through ‘Injun Country’ between Williton and Bishops Lydeard. ‘You can’t be too careful’ Deputy Hillock warned, ‘with the Bourg-was-ioux’ Tribe led by Chief ‘Big Mouth’ White Feather from her mountainside hideout near Stogumber. We advise all travellers to buy a day rover, which includes insurance against death by arrows or the buffet car coffee...’

Prairie Belle? That won't do - the wheel arrangement is wrong...
