710 am Aberdeen to Glasgow? I wish. Who remembers that. I had a number of good runs on that train 1964-65.

Perhaps a swan-song on the Waverley Route doing a number of Sunday runs - organised by SRPS - would be a fitting finale; one can only hope !

No.9 was a frequent performer on the 710 and I particularly remember John Thompson a Ferryhill driver turning in sub 30 minute Forfar to Perth runs with 80 mph plus over the river at Cargill. Wonderful days.

Green with envy at all of you luck sods!

Seeing No.9 make a trip back up to Ferryhill would be incredibly fitting. She may not get the chance again, and seeing that Feryhill buffer beam back where it belongs...Well...

An Aberdeen-Edinburgh-Glasgow-Perth-Inverness-Aberdeen circular would be my vote. Over a couple of days of course. And a trip down the Waverley.

Does anybody have an update on repairs to No. 9?

Thought there might be something on 'the works' but last update was from end of April, with some stripping down being necessary for a proper examination....

I have never had the pleasure of witnessing, or travelling behind 60009 at speed. But I did get to see her at the Great Gathering in York and close enough to stroke her when she has visited the Paignton line. :D

I'm biased, but for me there's only one place where a racing green A4 belongs, and nowhere better than drifting under Perth's roof and lattice footbridges.
    16th October 1993, just number 9 and me !.
For a moment it could have been a 1960s summer holiday in Perthshire.
Still hoping number 9 gets to retire in style on home ground.

In the Works this evening Mr Riley states :

Following a meeting today, we are happy to report that the authorisation to commence repairs to cracking in the locomotives outer doorplate has been given.

Although the ELR roster page says 6990 for today, the chime whistle I could hear from my back garden indicates number 9 was active all day.

There was an update on Facebook earlier today indicating that No. 9 passed it's boiler test and that they intend to run her on the ELR this weekend with her mainline work resuming on 16th (Worcester Tour)

Various extremities crossed for the 8th September then - thank you, Messrs. Cameron and Riley :)

Didn't manage to get to the ELR 'til late this afternoon by which time the sun had clocked off and gone home. Here's No 9 at Townsend Fold about 30 minutes late on the 15-25 from Rawtenstall.
Am I seeing things or does it look like she's had a prang on the front end?
