Note sure who would seek to bury such news, however, considering that the A1 Trust is an entirely public funded organisation it would be rather remiss of them not to tell those providing the cash what was going on?

Not so much "remiss" not to tell, but exemplary of them to be quite so open, and to the wider public, not just their known supporters. And, regardless of public interest arguments, an example to railway organisations across the patch for how to do it.

It's just that some organisations with PR people at high level would see this news as bad publicity and try to suppress it.

In the fullness of time however, that action would be seen as somewhat dishonest and may do long-term damage to their reputation compared to being honest about a short-term setback.

So it doesn't look like bits of Blue Peter are required. Heres a question; Apart from the Whistle, airpumps and sanding gear; is there anything else on Tornado that is 'refurbished heritage era' or is it all brand new...

Isn't the tender underframe LNER original?

I have got a nagging thought that there is a project 'out there' using an LNER tender frame - just not Tornado.

I wish I knew what that tender was from that I used to see at Peterborough in the mid-70s; it was adapted as a snowplough.

Isnt it the Ex flying Scotsman water Carrier ? Havent 'New Crewe 'fixed it up for Bittern ? Believe one of the B17 groups got an ex lner standard tender.
I was thinking along the lines of cab controls, injectors etc.

Well, the fact that they already had all the required modern drawings, contacts with suppliers, etc no doubt really helped speed things up.

But it's good to see the very speedy progress in getting her running again.

The B17 Steam Locomotive Trust website confirms their ownership of an LNER Group Standard Tender - see "Project Aims" preamble on their homepage http://www.b17steamloco.com/

The 61662 "Manchester United" group also have an LNER group tender rescued from a Doncaster scrapyard: http://www.engine61662appeal.co.uk/project.html

I think they A1 guys originally had Scotsman’s second tender (or at least the frames), but decided to build new in the end. Remember seeing a picture of them in SR back in the 90s...

It would be nice to think that's the case - I hope so, I remember the tender hanging around the station during the mid-70s. Much better that than it got scrapped.

It also helps if you have the cash in the bank. This is not having a pop at the trust and whatever your view on the loco you have to raise your hat to their fundraising. I appreciate that the last filed accounts are to 31st March 2017 but they report the trust had over £500k in the bank, donations in the year of nearly £200k, plus covenants of over £300k with another £100k back from the taxman in respect of gift aid. Whilst you would prefer such incidents not to happen as least they are group with the where with all to cover straight away rather than have to sit around and wait until they have raised the cash by a special fund raising appeal.

Well, it's good to see rapid progress on this. Whatever top speed it runs at, I'm looking forward to eventually completing the journey to York from King's Cross.
