That's understandable, though the number of people still around who were directly concerned must be minimal now?

Purely from a selfish point of view, I hope I live long enough to one day be able to stand on that little platform in the dappled shade of a sunlit afternoon, listening to the beat of the locomotive coming up from Barnstaple.
Or to be able to bask in the breeze and birdsong at Chelfham, whilst waiting for a train...

So that will be Phase Five then!

Perhaps we'd better concentrate on getting back to Pilton first though! :)

love the photo of the bridge over the taw,one of very few i believe to curve in 45 degree's,used to cross it as a kid, should never have been demolished but turned into a foot bridge, yet another narrow minded decision made by local councils on old railway lines, the bridge however bought the standard gauge line from barnstaple junction to barnstaple town where the l&b terminated, there is pretty much no chance of the railway proceeding any further than pilton yard, apart from obstructions on the formation from many years ago,a new block of apartments has just been built by goulds yard, the dense hedge by the inner relief road has just been cut back and in my opinion it would be a very tight squeeze to get through to pilton yard itself.
as for track at snapper,a lot of EA shareholders have asked for some to be laid along the length of the platform,EA's remit is to use funds raised by share sales to purchase trackbed from blackmoor gate back to barnstaple, however,i believe there is a separate pot now for donations specifically for funding this track laying;)

More good news! Just confirmed by the Trust today, the further purchase of just under 1 kilometre of trackbed between Dean Steep and Kibsworthy.

Thats wonderful but how about waiting to tell everyone till the trust announce it?

Its on the members part of the website to give paying members and working volunteers the chance to hear the good news first....

the line was approx 19.5 miles in length,i think between the trust and EA approx 6-7 miles is now owned, there is a map on the l&b website detailing who owns what, the dean steep section has been known about for quite a while here but im not sure if chris has updated the map yet

I might post a query on the Groups.io site to see if anyone has recently added up the mileage to provide a definitive answer. At least it's nearly a third!

What is the significance of the sections of track highlighted with a coloured border?

It denotes that they are in the ownership if either the Trust, or Exmoor Associates, depending on the colour.

Brief update from East Group on carriage no.5 progress:

    https://www.lynton-rail.co.uk/trust/groups/pages/latest-carriage-no5

A bit light on photos, but by the sound of it, construction of the various sections is well advanced. The group really have worked miracles up there, and in often less than ideal circumstances.
Am I the only one hoping that the next project in line will be an Observation Saloon Brake Composite?
With an intact no.2 to reference from, those carriages really were the Mutt's Nuts of L&B stock, and I for one would be more than happy to contribute to funding one
