Depends whether she joins Soubry and Morgan in the awkward squad, as has been suggested. Her voice may be amplified as a result.

Possibly. Though equally possible is that, with a wafer-thin majority and freed of the obligations of being a front bencher, she may now have more time and inclination to engage more whole-heartedly in constituency issues.

Discussion maybe best continued in NGC...

Welp, Rudd's influence got rather shot to pieces over these past few weeks as the Home Office claims another political career for its graveyard...

Will this inadvertently help the RVR? Who knows...

Either way, glad to see progress continues, even if it's slow. Will the K&ESR assume responsibility for the section upon completion or will the small team continue to do things and run a few trains back and forth like the railway used to be operated?

Can someone please help? In all the information regarding TWAOs, reference is made to the Secretary of State. But no where can I find any reference to which particular Secretary of State this is.

That would be the Secretary of State for Transport, currently a Mr Chris Grayling.

    I wouldn't be so sure.

Firstly while Ms Rudd may have walked - she has only been in the post 18 months or so and the overall strategic direction of the Home Office has far more to do with her predecessor (the current Prime minister, Mrs May) than anything Ms Rudd may or may not have done. As such very little of the mud thrown as a result of the Windrush scandal will have stuck to her personally as it were.

Secondly virtually nobody n the Conservatives wanted her to resign, she has plenty of respect within the party and a return to the front bench is quite likely at some stage (providing a suitable 'remainer' ministerial vacancy comes up).

However in the short term free of the need to stick with the official line to preserve cabinet integrity, she could well become an important back bencher, particularly given her wafer thin majority. Thus as others have suggested her resignation may well turn out to be harmful to the RVR cause.

I tend to agree. A week is a long time in politics, even with the MSM stirring the pot as hard as they can. Ms Rudd could well become a thorny backbencher with rather too much constituency time on her hands.

Rudd has to retain her seat if to continue her political career. With a slim majority she will be anxious to appeal to as many as possible. Any RVR supporters in her constituency should write to her emphasising the economic advantages of the railway and the minimal disruption that will be caused by its operation. The importance of her support for the railway to the likelihood of receiving a vote should be made clear.

What has Amber Rudd got to do with the Rother Valley Railway? Is it in her constituency? I presume so. Apologies if this appears to be a somewhat daft question (apparently there's no such thing, but.......).

No, but she is on record as being opposed to the scheme on the grounds that it would potentially cause delays at the A21 crossing, the principal road into her constituency.
And presumably she will have the ear of Chris Grayling.
So somehow she must be persuaded otherwise...

Per here, "Completion of the missing link will allow Kent & East Sussex Railway (K&ESR) trains to carry visitors from Hastings and London arriving at the main line Station who want to the tourist destinations in East Sussex and Kent by train." So, yes, it will become part of the KESR operationally. I seem to recall seeing something that went into more detail, but alas cannot now find it.

Amber Rudd’s objection to the planning application was a very short letter opposing the scheme on the assumption that it will delay traffic on the A21. I think it was a token objection merely to satisfy the road lobby amongst her supporters. And I think she knew it since her letter was so short, with no technical details given to justify her assertions. As we know, the RVR have satisfied the technical concerns of the highway authorities concerned. The (Conservative) Rother District Council rightly gave little weight to Ms. Rudd’s objection when they granted planning permission.
